ReplyAnd don't forget the garbage that lines the train tracks and streets in town for those who come in by train and walk to the beach. Not exactly welcoming for tourists.

ReplyWhat a horrible tragedy for 2 people. While 1 has dies the other will remember the sad image for the rest of his life. May the engineer find comfort in knowing that what happened is not his fault.

ReplyTo find a way for the streets, empty lots, and open areas along the streets to be clean of rubbish. This involves the Town, homeowners and business owners buying into Clean Streets. This town is extremely dirty and it doesn't have to do with Hurricane Sandy. Contractors and landscapers have to stop using lots and streets as a dump for their garbage instead of going to the dump with their garbage.

They are, but you still have a primary who maintains the infrastructure. Just like you do in TX.

ReplyWhat is the occupancy rate of the current hotel in Pier Village? And the Resort? If not 100% then where is the annual demand for the new hotel and its occupancy? How is the Resort justifying its potential investment in rehabilitation? Does their plan include competition from a new Pier Village hotel? What is the occupancy rate of Pier Village 1 and 2? Are 300 new units needed? If all of this retail space is being developed at Pier Village how does this tie in to Broadway redevelopment? Isn't this really instead of Broadway redevelopment? Should money from this project be used for affordable housing development and green space on Broadway since retail space is not going to be competitive with Pier Village?

ReplyAnd when they realize the meters don't pay for the cost of the meters, maintenance, etc. they will seek to extend their in service time in certain locations to year round. Put meters on one street and people will look elsewhere for free parking until there isn't any and you have chased the customer from the area and have another problem- businesses who can't pay taxes because they don't have customers. How much ill will do you create when someone runs into a store to get something and comes out to a $54 time expired ticket?

ReplyOne of the nice features about the town is there aren't meters. Then comes the cost of maintaining them and the spaces, replacing them, processing the money, collecting on unpaid debt and the allure of the meters starts to disappear. Then they become year round... bag them during the holidays?? Drive more people away from Long Branch beaches in the summer to other towns? Make a dollar and cost yourself more. Sometimes you are just better off saying... NO!!!

How about figuring out how to clean up Morris Avenue and the sidewalks between the beach and the train station so people get a nice first impression of Long Branch instead of empty Diner, cracked sidewalks, garbage, and a dumping lot on Morris and 2nd Ave.
