Police, Coast Guard Save Surfer

Man was caught in rough seas off Seven Presidents Park beach in Long Branch

A surfer who was in distress nearby, off the Long Branch shoreline, was rescued by emergency crews on Friday afternoon. The Long Branch Police, U.S. Coast Guard and State Police were dispatched to Seven Presidents Park beach just before 1 p.m. after the male surfer was spotted waving for help in the water. Long Branch Police Capt. Jason Roebuck said the man was rescued by a New Jersey State Police helicopter. The U.S. Coast Guard also sent a boat from the Manasquan Inlet Station and Monmouth County Aviation units were called to scene. The surfer was reportedly 150 yards out in rough water with 8- to 9-foot waves. This is a breaking news story and it will be updated when more information becomes available.
