Pizzeria and Bar in Neptune City voted Best Thin Crust Pizza in NJ.
Pizza is a favorite among many. While there are a couple joints in Rumson and Fair Haven where you can grab a slice like Umberto's, a gourmet pie like Tavolo Pronto and Undici, or even lobster pizza at Val's Tavern, there is a unique and fun place that is worth a quick drive. Pete and Elda's Bar/Carmen's Pizzeria in Neptune City may be the most well-known pizza joint along the Jersey shore. Whether it be the "eat an entire XL pie for a free t-shirt" craze, enjoying their other classic Italian dishes, or acknowledging the greatness of their thin crust pizza as a whole, Pete and Elda's is definitely a hot commodity, and fun to go sit at the bar with your friends or sit at a table with your family. A tradition for my peers during high school…

For more than 15 years, Gary Sable has been producing the borough's best soups from the most unassuming joint in town.
George Lystris is sitting at a table in his Bistro at Red Bank restaurant during the afternoon lull when his good friend and fellow chef Anthony Ferrando, owner of the New York Times-reviewed Dish, A Restaurant, wanders over with a cup of coffee and asks what’s doing for lunch. The first choice is soup. So it’s decided. Soup sounds good. This is the place, tucked down a narrow alley on Monmouth Street, a curious corridor comprised of a random assortment of shops, one selling trinkets from the Emerald Isle, another selling eyebrows, where the chefs of Red Bank come to grab a bite to eat. “Best soup,” Lyristis says. “Have you met Gary? You’ve got to meet Gary, he knows everything that’s going on in this town.” Fittingly enough, as if by …

Health-conscious eatery in Middletown recently opened a new location in Freehold.
Energy Grille on Route 35 in Middletown recently also opened a location on Route 9 North in Freehold. Coining the phrase, "The Taste Your Waist Will Love", they are true to their tagline. Much of their ingredients are low-fat and whole wheat, with a variety of salads, paninis, wraps, burgers, and 10" whole wheat pizzas. Since I don't get to Middletown often, I decided to order a sampling of a few different menu items at once, all delicious, filling, and enough for leftovers. Their salads all looked great, ranging from the traditional Chicken Caesar with light dressing and multigrain croutons, the Cobb Salad with Cranberries, grilled chicken, chicken bacon, blue cheese, romaine lettuce, egg, dried cranberries and low fat ranch, or what I …

Family owned bar and restaurant a favorite for many years in Bradley Beach.
I went to Vic's for the first time in years the day after the hurricane. After a long weekend of preparing for the worst, it felt great to come out of hiding to a place busy enough that you couldn't even tell a storm had come through. Or perhaps it was just that feeling of being holed up and needing to GET OUT to eat a comforting meal. With family immigrating here dating back to 1910, Vic's was originally "Vic's Tap Room", but became "Vic's Bar and Restaurant" in 1947. I have never once run into someone who has been to Vic's who hasn't spoken highly of it, and always insisting that I must go. So that, paired with its rich history, put Vic's on my Patch list. When arrived, there were still a lot of people without power that were seeking …

Serving up seasonal cuisine, locally-grown produce, and original taste
My new secret treasure this week is in the Grove in Shrewsbury. D’Jeet?, offering seasonal and local cuisine, opened a while ago but I hadn’t been to the Grove recently, until this past weekend when I went there with my friend and her family. Now that I have been there, I will definitely go back. A small and cozy set up, D’Jeet? offers lunch, dinner, seasonal catering and business lunches. With an adventurous menu, it is concise with a little bit of everything. They have pizzas, appetizers, sandwiches, burgers, salads, soups, entrée, coffee and desserts. I scanned the menu and spent quite a long time deciding what I was in the mood for. I was in the mood for something refreshing, so I chose The Chop-Chop Salad tossed with cucumber, …

Ship-shaped restaurant serves up juicy patties of beef with crispy steak fries and provides a homey, casual family dining experience.
As a lover of traditional American food, I’ve had my share of burgers. If you are from the area you most likely know that one of the best places to get a generously sized piece of the best quality beef is at Barnacle Bill’s in Rumson. Juicy and sinful, you really must treat yourself to Barnacle’s when you are craving it. Located on First Street by the river, the restaurant looks like a ship sitting on the water, with lifesavers and anchors decorating the inside. They have unlimited amount of peanuts, allowing the shells to scatter the floor. It has a truly homey and casual feel and a great place to bring your family. My family and I have been going there for years, and every time we have been there, it has been packed. The signature …

Busy Irish Pub a Favorite Spot in Red Bank
If you are familiar with the local area and its nightlife, you may have already heard of the Dublin House, whether or not you have actually been there yet. Located on Monmouth Street in Red Bank, The “Dub” is as authentic as any pub in Ireland. The weekends are always bustling on the bar side and on the restaurant side, with tables and a bar on both floors. In the summer, the front patio has waitress service as well as a bar and some tables out back; a perfect way to spend a warm night in Red Bank. The menu has traditional Irish dishes as well as a variety of appetizers, soups, salads, burgers, sandwiches, wraps, pastas, entrees and weekly specials. The Shepherd’s Pie is my favorite Irish dish. A baked mix of beef, carrots and peas topped …
