Officials will be on hand at Newark Penn Station to hear customers' concerns and questions

The transportation corporation will hold a customer forum Tuesday night at Newark Penn Station to give customers a direct opportunity to speak with senior executives and managers, spokesman John Durso, Jr. said. "This customer forum is coming toward the end of our current customer survey, which will conclude on Friday evening. We have been encouraging our customers to log on to our website and take our survey and give NJ Transit their honest assessments. What are we doing right? What can we do better?" Durso said. NJ Transit Fares Won't Increase in 2013

Capital program includes funding for several new trains and buses

Commuting can be stressful and time consuming, but it seems no matter how you slice it it's always expensive. Even buying a monthly rail ticket, it costs about $5,000 a year for the trek from the Red Bank or Little Silver station to New York Penn Station.  With that in mind, it may come as a relief to commuters that NJ Transit will not be upping their fares in 2013. The Board of Directors recently approved a $1.904 billion operating budget and a $1.152 billion capital program for the 2013 fiscal year, which began on July 1, according to a news release from the company. Fares account for $894.2 million, which is nearly half of the operating budget. The remainder is drawn from about $109.8 million in commercial revenues, $363 million in …

Train Trestle Truck Hit Won't Impact Rail Service

Trains on Amtrak's Northeast Corridor won't be delayed, authorities said, after a tractor trailer sustained heavy damage attempting to cross under a bridge in South Brunswick.

It happened miles away, but might have had an impact on commuter train delays today. A tractor trailer carrying water in South Brunswick struck a train bridge in the township, causing fears that train traffic up and down Amtrak's Northeast Corridor might be disrupted. That, however, hasn't happened so far, Amtrak officials said. The accident briefly delayed trains traveling on the northeast corridor, as there were concerns about the structural integrity of the bridge. Amtrak spokesman Cliff Cole said engineers finished examining the damage at about 1:30 p.m. and reported no issues. The accident near Deans Lane has delayed trains traveling on the Amtrak line, which includes those carrying commuters from the Rumson-Fair Haven area to Red …

NJ Transit Expands Travel Options for Bicyclists

Newly relaxed Bike Aboard Policy will allow bicycle boarding at all train stations effective July 1, 2012

Cycling enthusiasts, rejoice! You can now take your bike aboard trains at any station in New Jersey. It's thanks to a newly relaxed bicycle onboarding policy from NJ Transit. The policy is effective July 1. Cyclists should note that this new policy does not mean you can take your standard (non-collapsible) bike on any train at any time. There are restrictions for certain holidays and peak travel times. Read NJ Transit's full release here: NEWARK, NJ — Following Transportation Commissioner and NJ TRANSIT Board Chairman James Simpson’s call for a speedy resolution to customer and bicycle advocates’ concerns about bike access at train stations, the NJ TRANSIT Board of Directors today adopted a new Bike Aboard Program that expands travel …
