American Littoral Society's usual Sandy Hook New Year's Day Walk moved

The walk must go on. That's the sentiment of the The American Littoral Society, which promotes the study and conservation of marine life, will, for the first time, hold its 35th annual Dery Bennett Memorial New Year’s Day Beach Walk at a location other than its Sandy Hook home base. Sandy Hook camp sponsored by American Littoral Society starts Aug. 6
Treat your kids to a week of learning and fun with American Littoral Society (ALS) educators and naturalists this August on Sandy Hook. The camp will feature the SeaQuest marine science and environmental science curriculum which has been successfully used in New Jersey after-school enrichment programs for the past five years, according to the Littoral Society. This summer, kids entering grades 5, 6, 7 and 8 can participate in outdoor, field-based learning about coastal habitat, wildlife and the human impact on them. Sandy Hook sessions are conducted from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. August 6-10 and Aug 20-24 at ALS headquarters on the end of the Hook at historic Fort Hancock. American Littoral Society's executive director brings to his conservation work memories of loyalty to a lifetime of thriving coastline living.
After spending his boyhood adventuring around the world's coastlines, from Spain to Japan, from California to Maryland, Tim Dillingham, executive director of the American Littoral Society (ALS), decided to make its conservation his life's work. Dillingham ended up taking the place of Derry Bennett, the organization's former longtime director (from 1968 to 2003). Bennett died in 2009, leaving a legacy of his work with the society. The Littoral Society promotes the study and conservation of marine life and habitat, protects the coast from harm, and empowers others to do the same.
