Despite progress made in fixing the major water main break a the Swimming River Reservoir's Water Treatement Plant, the strain on the system from recent excessive heat and higher system demands has forced New Jersey American Water Co. to stick with a limited outdoor water use edict. "In conjunction with NJDEP, we will continue to monitor the system production and key indicators throughout the day to ensure that an incremental approach to lifting restrictions will not jeopardize the outstanding progress we have made with the restoration efforts. But because of the excessive heat and higher system demands, we cannot make a change at this time," a released statement from the water company said. A 24-inch main service line to Middletown, which…

Sea Bright business owner Chris Wood was prepared and serving a full house
"What do you think? Do you think I could fit a whole body in there?" Woody's Ocean Grille owner Chris Wood joked on Saturday as he pointed to two man-sized coolers filled with ice at his Sea Bright restaurant. The place was packed at dinner time and the fresh ice, juices and sodas were flowing along with an uncompromised menu that included iced oysters and assorted raw bar features. "It's all fresh ice and bottled water, juices and sodas we're using," Wood added, speaking about the precautionary boil-water advisory Sea Bright was placed under, along with 21 other towns, on the heels of the water main break at the water treatment plant at Swimming River Reservoir in Tinton Falls. The treatment plant, via NJ American Water Co., provides …

The new rain garden at High Tech High ties in with the biology class's botany unit
The next time it rains at the High Technology High School, instead of the water that falls on the visitor's parking lot carrying pollutants and pesticides into the storm drain that leads to a creek which leads to the Swimming River Reservoir, it will be trapped by the school's brand new rain garden. The garden, on the school's Brookdale Community College Campus in Lincroft, is a depression dug into the ground lined with a plastic tarp, mulch, and soil, and filled with plants native to New Jersey that will absorb excess water and pollutants. Their roots and the soil will filter and absorb pesticides sprayed on the lawn and oil residue from cars parking on the lot, and microorganisms will render the pollutants harmless through a process …

This water company is a joke. Where are their continuity or redundancy plans? We're charged an arm and a leg for their services and every year they place some type of restriction on Monmouth County. Someone should look into this poorly run monopoly.   more ›
