Lower taxes for Fair Haven and higher for Rumson
It's one of three school district budgets in the Rumson-Fair Haven area that has been adopted and it represents good tax break news for Fair Haven residents and not so good for Rumson. In taking the $16.9 million 2013-14 Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School budget, with a $15.6 million tax levy, on the road, school officials revealed that this year's budget represents roughly a 70/30 split in costs between Rumson and Fair Haven and falls right at the state-mandated 2 percent spending cap. Staying within the cap for increasing spending and levying taxes means that the budget will not have to be put to voters in November. It all translates into an increase of $18.60 per $100,000 of assessed property value in Rumson, or a total rate per $…

The Rumson-Fair Haven Division 12 Youth Cheer Team has been doing more than cheering on their sports teams. The girls have been cheering on a good cause for those Bulldogs, or people in the R-FH community, adversely affected by Sandy. “I am so proud of these girls," R-FH Youth Cheer Commissioner and Head Coach Amy Clark said. "They are even brighter than national champions today. They worked hard to perfect this routine and I felt they deserved a chance to shine before their community. I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to provide an example of Bulldog team spirit." On Monday, the team performed its competition routine for the fans at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School during half-time of the boys varsity basketball game. …

Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School Superintendent Peter Righi said he and the staff are enthused about the 2012-13 school year.
When the bell rings, or buzzer buzzes, at 7:45 a.m. Thursday at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School, it will be signaling the start of the 2012-13 school year in what has been deemed by New Jersey Monthly as the top high school in Monmouth County. Statewide, R-FH ranked number 10. Cinching such a title is all in an innovative day's work, as Superintendent Peter Righi sees it. The school day may end at 2:40 p.m., but Righi said that the year, in and out of the classroom, promises to be one that is full of academic creativity and student and staff enthusiasm. “We’re very excited about this school year,” the superintendent said Wednesday afternoon. “The whole tone for the start of the year the last two days in staff meetings has been very …

The New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association released its classifications this week for the upcoming high school football season, following the executive committee's approval to create a Group V designation in the four public school sections in May. Among the classifications are Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School and Red Bank Catholic. "This creates a greater opportunity for schools and for student-athletes," Jack DuBois, NJSIAA assistant director who is in charge of football, said following the approval. "It increases the number of teams playing in the playoffs from 128 to 160. At the same time, it eliminates 16 consolation games that schools didn't want to play anyway." The proposal also allows teams with records under .…

The first Rumson-Fair Haven Municipal Alliance for the Prevention of Alcohol and Drug Abuse formed; coordinator will source grants, run programs
It’s a first for Fair Haven — establishing the Rumson-Fair Haven Municipal Alliance for the Prevention of Alcohol and Drug Abuse and hiring its coordinator. Now the latter part of that first has been accomplished. The borough, as the lead agency in the interlocal alliance between the two towns, has hired a coordinator to run its first alliance program and source grants for its activities. Donna DeStefano, of Brick Township, was appointed to the position by resolution at the July 12 Fair Haven Borough Council meeting. Her annual salary for the part-time position is $18,000, “which will be pro-rated for the remainder of 2012,” according to the resolution. Since Fair Haven is the lead agency in the alliance, all funds will be received and …
