Sandy Blamed for Seven Bridges Road Construction Delay

The road was expected to re-open in January

If you thought it wouldn't be long now before you could drive down Rumson Road from either direction and make a right or left onto Seven Bridges, you were wrong. Monmouth County officials have announced that the months long project, originally slated for completion at the end of January, has been delayed a few months to mid-April. The reason for the delay: Hurricane Sandy. “Following the storm, our contractor evaluated the situation at the bridge and reassessed the schedule,” County Engineer Joseph Ettore said in a released statement. “However, after resuming work and upon reaching the point in the schedule where the foundation piles for the bridge abutments were to be installed, the electric to the bridge had to be de-energized.” In order…

Rumson Road to Seven Bridges? Not 'Til 2013

The road will be closed from Rumson to Little Silver Point Road

If you're driving down Rumson Road and plan on making a turn onto Seven Bridges Road, just keep going straight. As of today, a stretch of the road, between Rumson and Little Silver Point roads will be closed for repairs through January. County officials have advised that motorists should use the signed detours and expect travel delays throughout the project. Specifically, northbound traffic on Seven Bridges Road will detour west on Silverside to Branch Avenue and then be routed north on Branch Avenue to Rumson Road. Conversely, southbound traffic should follow Rumson Road west to Branch Avenue and then travel south to Silverside Avenue. “The structurally-deficient dual span timber bridge on Seven Bridges Road will be replaced with a new …

Improvements Planned for Rumson and Bingham: The Most Dangerous Intersection

Starting Saturday, Monmouth County will be milling and repaving the intersection and adding reflectors to all stop signs.

Rumson's most dangerous intersection, at Bingham Avenue and Rumson Road, will be milled and repaved, beginning on Saturday, to correct what residents and local officials have described as hazardous conditions. “There have been 20 accidents there in the past 3 years,” said Chief Richard Tobias of the Rumson Police Department. Concerned residents told Patch they feel the intersection is plagued with bad visibility and is a prime location for black ice. The police chief said he has been working with the county to assess this problem and come up with solutions. County officials say they recognize the dangers at the intersection and have made it a top priority. The county project will start with milling of the center of the intersection …

How about installing a small, old style blinker (charming) that alerts Bingham drivers to the intersection and notifies Rumson Road drivers of a busy intersection and to be more defensive. A stoplight will be an awful eyesore and mess up summer traffic flows. I've lived here my whole life and would hate to see a traffic light ruin the sweeping flows of Rumson Road. Please, don't put a traffic …   more ›
