Officials create airtight Emergency Operation Plan
Well before Hurricane Sandy struck the shore area with unprecedented force, administrators at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (R-FH) were determined to take their emergency preparedness to the highest possible level. They took a major step towards that goal by recently taking advantage of a golden opportunity provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). R-FH is one of a handful of New Jersey schools to send a team of professionals to FEMA's Multi-Hazard Emergency Planning for Schools, an intensive four-day course held in the National Emergency Training Center in Emmittsville, Maryland. The R-FH Board of Education backed the school's decision to send six administrators and four first responders to the session held …

This is the third Shore Conference Title garnered by the team
The third time was definitely a charm for Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School's Boys Lacrosse, as the team broke a record by earning its third Shore Conference Title (SCT) in a row. The team won its final SCT game at Monmouth University today against Manahawkin's Southern Regional with a 14-5 score, parents told Patch. The guys started out strong and kept it going throughout, never losing their edge. Right at the onset, in the first quarter, they led, 4-0. By the end of the first half, the team had scored 11 to Southern's 3. And at the end of the third, the score was 14-3. They ended with the 14-5 win. A special thanks to Fair Haven Mayor Ben Lucarelli and other parents kept Patch updated and sent some photos. If you have any you'd like…

The high school students are spearheading fundraising events for breast cancer awareness and Meridian Health's Paint the Town Pink campaign
Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (R-FH) students are schooling peers and people in the community in an annual show of support in the pink for the sake of breast cancer awareness. May is the month of the Paint the Town Pink campaign, sponsored by Meridian Health/Riverview Medical Center, to raise breast cancer awareness and fund mammograms for under- and uninsured women. And, as it has since the event's inception in 2006, R-FH will do its part by lighting its signature tower pink and decorating the front of the school in the motif during the third week in May. But, "while the pink decor may be pleasing to the eye, the events taking place inside the school building are also at the heart of the R-FH community's support for the cause," a…

Twin sisters rally and raise funds to bring screening of 'Girl Rising' to R-FH to educate the public on girls' education issues in underdeveloped countries and donate money for the cause.
Twin sisters Clare and Emma Fitzgerald, seniors at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School, don't always think alike. But they did recently in support of a worthy cause; and the results far surpassed their expectations. The two felt strongly about their desire to share the documentary Girl Rising with fellow students and with the entire community. The film, which is about the lack of formal education for girls in underdeveloped countries, had affected each of them deeply. They were concerned, however, about raising sufficient funds to secure the licensing fee to show the film in a public venue. So, working with the R-FH student organization Character Education Club, the two got that message out to R-FH students and parents and ended up …

As the result of a Saturday baseball game melee, a Rumson parent has been arrested and charged with simple assault, according to APP.com. The parent, Patrick Maisto, 49, of Rumson, allegedly went onto the field and assaulted a Buc player after a sixth-inning collision during a tie game started a brawl, the report said. A Red Bank Regional player running from third base collided with the Rumson-Fair Haven catcher, clearing both benches, ending in the melee and possibly getting all brawling players suspended from upcoming games, it added. The game was immediately terminated and both teams could be found ineligible to compete in the upcoming NJSIAA Tournament.

Junior Matt Dell will hold a bicycle drive in three spots on Sunday
Fair Havenite Matt Dell wants to give some Hurricane Sandy-afflicted kids a free ride — on their own nearly new bicycles. The Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School junior was driven to spearhead a cause to get bicycles to those who lost them as a result of Sandy. As Dell sees it, his mission is a means to make use of unused bikes sitting around or cluttering garages and sheds while giving area kids an opportunity to help their peers. "This is a way for kids in our towns to help kids who lost their bikes in Sandy," he said. "In Fair Haven especially, since the Youth Center is not on a busy street and kids ride their bikes everywhere, kids can help other kids by riding the bikes they no longer need to the Youth Center and walking home or …

Peer leaders spearheaded programs for peers based on nationwide campaign
April is Alcohol Awareness Month, and students and faculty at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (R-FH) have taken a proactive approach to spreading awareness of the nationwide campaign to increase knowledge of the health and social issues caused by excessive consumption of alcohol. They are participating in a number of activities designed to encourage safe and healthy choices. On April 10, the R-FH student organization Peer Leadership Club worked with RFH faculty to present a school-wide assembly entitled Steered Straight: Under the Influence. Developed by the organization Steered Straight Inc., Under the Influence uses current real-life situations to demonstrate the dangers associated with the misuse and abuse of alcohol as well as …
