Maura Beyer fills seat left vacant by board member Colleen Hodge through this year's end
“She’s been interested in being on the board for about a year and a half,” Rumson Board of Education President Colleen O’Connor said of newly appointed board member Maura Beyer after she was sworn in at last night’s meeting. Beyer, of 24 Highland Ave., has lived in Rumson for 12 years, has four children in school in the district and has been described as a "highly visible" PTO member and parent. “Because she has a lot of children of different ages in the school district, she has been involved in pretty much every aspect of what goes on, on a day-to-day basis, at the schools,” which played a major part in her selection, O’Connor said. Beyer, who said that she’s been very involved in the district since her oldest child was in kindergarten …

The new member will serve until the board reorganization in January 2013
Following an application and interview process, a new Rumson Board of Education member will be appointed and sworn in at a rescheduled regular board meeting tonight at 8 p.m. in the Forrestdale School's Higgins Library. Earlier this month, the applicants for the seat on the dais left vacant by Colleen Hodge, of Monmouth Avenue, were interviewed at a special board meeting. Hodge was in the first year of her second three-year term on the nine-member dais. Her unexpired second term ends in 2014. As a matter of standard protocol, the board must fill Hodge’s seat by appointment until the end of the year, or the board reorganization in early January 2013. Whoever would like to fill the complete unexpired term to its end through 2014, including …

But three candidates for the temporary appointment were interviewed at a special meeting Tuesday night. The interviews, board President Colleen O’Connor said at the meeting, were conducted in the Women’s League of Voters’ fashion, with all candidates seated at a conference table, facing the board, and taking turns to answer each question fielded by O’Connor in the public forum. About five members of the public were in attendance. The applicants for the seat on the dais, which will be filled by one until January, 2013, are: Russell Binns, of 26 Lincoln Ave., a patent attorney and former computer engineer; Taryn Iwan, of …
