Pink in Pinkson to Fight Breast Cancer

Rumson's Paint the Town Pink name is Pinkson

It's a sure sign of the May Meridian Health's Paint the Town Pink breast cancer awareness campaign — "Welcome to Pinkson." That's the sign seen hanging on the tennis courts at Victory Park in Rumson just as people get into town. But you won't see any paint. As part of the campaign, officials agreed to allow Meridian representatives come into town, put up the sign, add pink lights to what is the borough Christmas tree, and hang bows on the utility poles along West through East River Road. And businesses were invited to join in and decorate. Rumson officials approved the signs, but specified, at a recent Borough Council meeting, that they'd like to make sure Meridian has the sign and lights removed a week before the town Memorial Day parade…

Pinked Out in Pink Haven Without Paint

Businesses decorate to support Meridian Health/Riverview Medical Center's Paint the Town Pink campaign

Fair Haven, or Pink Haven, is one of the 23 municipalities taking part in the Paint the Town Pink campaign for breast cancer awareness, sponsored by Meridian Health. There's just no paint involved. The town was offered a couple of freebie support-the-cause options, and officials felt they were a bit too corporate and permanent. However, they are very supportive of the breast cancer awareness mission. "We wholeheartedly support the cause," Mayor Ben Lucarelli said. "But, when they asked if we wanted the pink stripe down the middle of the road, which we let them do last year, and/or if we would agree to let them paint a the campaign symbol with the Meridian logo, we just thought that was a little too corporate." The Borough Council had …

R-FH Students Paint the School Pink with Breast Cancer Awareness Events

The high school students are spearheading fundraising events for breast cancer awareness and Meridian Health's Paint the Town Pink campaign

Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (R-FH) students are schooling peers and people in the community in an annual show of support in the pink for the sake of breast cancer awareness. May is the month of the Paint the Town Pink campaign, sponsored by Meridian Health/Riverview Medical Center, to raise breast cancer awareness and fund mammograms for under- and uninsured women. And, as it has since the event's inception in 2006, R-FH will do its part by lighting its signature tower pink and decorating the front of the school in the motif during the third week in May. But, "while the pink decor may be pleasing to the eye, the events taking place inside the school building are also at the heart of the R-FH community's support for the cause," a…

RFH Students Use Facebook to Support Their Teacher

Students are using a Facebook page to lend moral support to a teacher battling cancer. Do you know Ms. Vac? Tell us your words of encouragement for her.

In this Brave New World where the Internet is the new bathroom wall of the world, open to whatever musings you aren't brave enough to say to people's faces, it's nice when you see its users behaving admirably. Such is the case at Rumson-Fair Haven High School where we hear a student has started a Facebook page in support of a beloved teacher battling it out with breast cancer. According to a tip from Patricia Phelan Clapp, students at the school started the page on Monday with a goal of getting 1,000 likes in support of their teacher Julie Vaccarelli. "This is going to be a way to show their love and continue to share inspirational messages for her while she undergoes treatment," Clapp told Patch in an email Monday. The Facebook page, …
