Shopie Schwed, Longtime Fair Haven Resident, Dies at 92

Services begin on Tuesday

Longtime Fair Haven resident and wife of Stephen, Sophie H. Schwed died on May 13 at Somerset Medical Center, Somerville, at 92. Born in Ansonia, CT, to Theodore and Eugenia Trush Herchakowski, Sophie worked at Fort Monmouth for many years, retiring in 1983. She was a longtime communicant of the Church of the Nativity, Fair Haven, who was known to love photography, nature, animals and sewing, knitting, counted cross stitch and Ukrainian embroidery, according to legacy.com. Sophie was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Stephen, in 2004. She is also predeceased by: her brother, Andrew Herchakowski; and sisters, Anna Colowitch and Mary Stecyk. Rumson Resident Angie Dorney Dies at 92

Services begin this afternoon

Longtime Rumson resident Angela "Angie" Dorney passed away on Friday, May 17, at 92. Born in New York, Dorney was the daughter of Giovanni and Maria Cicerello who married Joseph Dorney and had a daughter, Joanne, according to legacy.com. She was predeceased by Joseph in 1956 and is survived by: her daughter, Joanne Sniffen and son-in-law Paul; her grandson, Shane Sniffen; her brother, Michael Cicerello; and many of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 19 at Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St., Red Bank. There will be a funeral mass at Church of the Nativity, Ridge Road, Fair Haven, on Monday at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. George H. Drawbaugh, Rumson High School Grad with Area Ties, Dies

Family requests donations in his name to American Parkinson Disease Association, Seeing Eye

George H. Drawbaugh, a graduate of what was Rumson High School who had many significant ties in the area, died on May 8. Born in Red Bank, after Drawbaugh graduated from Rumson, he went to college at Dartmouth and graduated in 1959, according to legacy.com.  After a career with NJ Bell Telephone and in insurance, he started his own insurance brokerage business, George H. Drawbaugh and Associates, legacy.com added. Drawbaugh was also a current member of the Root Beer & Checker Club and the Shrewsbury Ice Boat and Yacht Club and a former member of the Shrewsbury Sailing and Yacht Club, his obituary said. Lifelong Rumson resident Sharon Zerr died on Thursday, May 9, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank, after a long illness.  Surrounded by family and friends when she passed, Zerr is survived by: her husband of 49 years, Robert; her daughter, Terri, and husband Robert Zebold; her sister, Susan, and husband Ronzel Hersman; her sister-in-law, Linda Feeny and husband Vinny; and granddaughters, Haleigh, Jackie, Lacee, Brandee, and a great-granddaughter, Macie, according to legacy.com. Memorial for Rumson Fire Company's David Shinn

Shinn died in November of 2012

David M. Shinn was a Rumson Fire Company member and longtime resident of the borough who passed away last year. Shinn, who was a past president of the fire company, died on Nov. 30, 2012. Now, according to legacy.com, there will be a memorial service for Shinn at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Rumson. The family requests that donations in lieu of flowers be sent to the fire company at 140 E. River Road, Rumson, NJ 07760. Did you know David? Memorial Service to Honor Rumsonite, Volunteer Mary Telfer George

George died at 90 on May 1

A memorial service for longtime Rumson resident, World War II veteran and former teacher, Mary Telfer George, who died at 90 on May 1, is planned for Saturday at the Oceanic Free Library Raised in Newark, Mary was a 1939 graduate of Barringer High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. After rising in the ranks to sergeant, she was honorably discharged in 1946. A graduate of Upsala College with a degree in English and economics, Mary taught in the Middletown schools, where her and her husband, Howell, lived for a short time, in the 1950s, 70s and 80s and retired in 1985. Rumson was her family's home for 49 years. After moving to Rumson, Mary worked and volunteered at the Oceanic Free Library and was the recipient …

Marjorie Bramley, Longtime Fair Havenite, Traveler, Historian, Dies at 93

Marjorie Bramley, well-known area author, historian, gardener and real estate professional, formerly of Fair Haven, passed away in Gorham, ME, on May 3 at 93. Marjorie was born to Harold and Bessie Mae MacConnell, of Atlantic Highlands, where she was raised. She then attended Burton Hall and Oakland Street schools in Red Bank and graduated from Red Bank High School in 1938, according to her obituary on legacy.com. Marjorie was predeceased by her first husband, William Evans, in 1950, and her second husband, Robert Bramley, in 1983, it said. A child of the Great Depression, Marjorie worked at Fort Monmouth during World War II. David Padnes, Patent Attorney, of Fair Haven, Dies at 66

David Padnes, 66, died at his Fair Haven home on Saturday, May 4, surrounded by family. A 35-year Fair Haven resident, David was a native of the Bronx, NY, who was a patent attorney for Lucent Technologies for most of his career — 31 years — and also was an attorney with Gibbons Law Firm. David was known to spend his free time lending a hand to others, working on cars and being a handyman around the hosue. He is survived by: his wife Patricia Padnes, of Fair Haven; three children, Michael Padnes, of Jersey City, Kevin Padnes and wife Lisa and son Colin John, of Fair Haven, and Kimberly Padnes, of Hoboken; and a brother, Steven Padnes, of Glenside, Pa. Thomas C. Cosentino, 60, of Rumson, died on Friday, May 3, at the UMDNJ Hospital while awaiting a liver transplant. Known as a master gardener, barbecuer and man with a "gentle soul and kindness to all that he met," Thomas was an electrician for Atlantic Security, Ocean Township, according to legacy.com. Thomas is survived by: his wife Sarah of 19 years; two daughters, Samantha and Emily; a son, Michael; a brother, Paul; a sister, Mary; and three grandchildren, Annabella, Elliott and Owen. Mildred Becker, Longtime Fair Havenite, Dies at 93

Mildred Becker, 93, of Fair Haven, passed away Saturday, April 27, at Meridian Nursing and Rehabilitation, Shrewsbury. Born in Red Bank, Mildred moved to Fair Haven in 1959. A graduate of the NJ Beauty Culture Academy, she was a member of the Fair Haven Senior Citizens group and the Congregation B'Nai Israel in Tinton Falls. After she graduated from beauty school, Mildred worked as a beautician for several years before working at Surray Luggage in Red Bank for more than 40 years, according to legacy.com.
