NJ Transit Prepares for Winter Weather

Wind, rain and possible flooding are expected to make today's commute difficult.

With more winter weather expected to move through the region starting Wednesday afternoon and continuing into Thursday, NJ TRANSIT is mobilizing its operations, customer service and police personnel across the state to keep the system running smoothly and minimize delays.  In anticipation of the storm, NJ TRANSIT will offer full system-wide cross-honoring starting at 1 p.m. today, and continuing until the end of the service day Thursday. That means NJ TRANSIT customers can use their ticket or pass on an alternate travel mode—rail, bus or light rail.  Customers who normally take the bus from Rutherford to the Port Authority Bus Terminal may use their bus pass on the train from Rutherford to New York Penn Station. Customers who normally take…

Extra Rail Service to Accommodate Holiday Travel

NJ Transit is offering extra buses for Thanksgiving and Black Friday.

As NJ TRANSIT continues its storm-recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, the agency is gearing up to offer nearly normal Thanksgiving service levels on most of its lines to ensure customers’ travel plans go smoothly over the holiday weekend.  NJ TRANSIT is reminding customers that rail service may be subject to delays and cancellations as a result of ongoing storm recovery efforts.  Due to residual storm impacts, Gladstone Branch rail service remains suspended until further notice, and Newark Light Rail will continue to operate on a modified schedule between Newark Penn and Broad Street stations (service every half hour).  In addition, North Jersey Coast Line service will experience delays of up to 15 minutes between Long Branch …

All rail lines except one to run on full or modified service

The North Jersey Coast Line will resume service for next week's commute, according to a press release by Gov. Chris Christie's office. All but one of NJ Transit's rail lines will be running full or modified service effective Monday, Nov. 19 “This is a major milestone in our continuing, post-Sandy recovery.  The devastation wrought on the North Jersey Coast Line was the worst sustained throughout our system,” said Transportation Commissioner and NJ TRANSIT Board Chairman James Simpson in the release. “While we are not out of the woods and the recovery process continues, the restoration of this critical rail service is a major step forward for the Garden State.” The restoration of service on the North Jersey Coast Line completes the full or …

NJ Transit Substitute: Bus and Ferry Service for NYC Commuters

Information regarding bus pick-up and drop-off for commuters, as well as information regarding a new ferry from Hoboken to midtown NYC

NJ Transit will continue to offer emergency buses for New York City commuters as crews work to repair damage to some bridges and rail lines, according to spokeswoman Nancy Snyder. Emergency buses will operate inbound from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and will return commuters from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The bus and ferry service listed in the chart below is free. Ramsey Station Route 17, Ramsey  Ferries from Liberty State Park also operate for free between 1 and 2 p.m., however buses will not be available at that time from the original destinations listed above. NJ Transit to Resume Rail Service Sunday on Four More Lines

The North Jersey Coast Line, Raritan Valley Line, Main/Port Jervis Line will all run limited service, while the Atlantic City Line will resume normal service.

NJ TRANSIT will resume service on four more rail lines on Sunday, according to the Governor's Office. According to a press release from the governor's office, the North Jersey Coast Line, Raritan Valley Line and Main/Port Jervis Line will all operate on limited schedules, and the Atlantic City Line will operate on its regular schedule. The Northeast Corridor Line resumed service on Friday on a modified schedule, stopping at all stops except for the Jersey Avenue station in New Brunswick. NJ Transit Resumes Rail Service to NYC on the Northeast Corridor Line

Rail service on the Jersey Coast Line, Raritan Valley Line and Main Line remain suspended due to a power outage at the NJ TRANSIT rail operations center.

NJ TRANSIT has announced that rail service to New York Penn Station has resumed on the Northeast Corridor Line, but service on all other rail lines remains suspended due to a power outage and damage from Hurricane Sandy. According to the NJ TRANSIT website, the Northeast Corridor is running trains between Trenton and New York Penn Station on a modified schedule. Visit NJTransit.com to view schedules. The River Line light rail and the majority of bus service in New Jersey have already resumed. All other rail service aside from the Northeast Corridor line remains suspended until further notice. According to the website, rail passes are currently being cross-honored on buses.

UPDATED: Majority of NJ Transit Bus Service to Resume Thursday

More than 80 bus lines will resume service on Thursday in New Jersey.

NJ TRANSIT has announced that the majority of its bus lines will begin running on Thursday, as well as limited Access Link service.  The bus lines are part of a slow but steady restart of NJ TRANSIT's service following Hurricane Sandy, announced the same day as the 3 p.m. restoration of service on the River Line light rail between the Walter Rand Transportation Center in Camden and Trenton Transit Center.  “This is tremendous progress,” said Transportation Commissioner and NJ TRANSIT Board Chairman James Simpson in a press release. “We are not out of the woods by any stretch, but we will continue working around the clock to further restore service where we can safely do so. NJ Transit to Begin System Shutdown at 4 p.m. on Sunday

Here's a list of shutdown times, including last train departures and arrivals on each line.

NJ Transit Prepares for Possible Monday Shutdown

The state has announced that NJ Transit rail and buses may be fully shut down on Monday in advance of Hurricane Sandy.

Gov. Chris Christie's office has announced that preparations have begun to potentially shut down NJ TRANSIT rail, light rail and bus service as of Monday, in advance of Hurricane Sandy. According to a press release from the governor's office, shutting down NJ TRANSIT services will take at least 12 hours. During the shutdown, all buses and trains will be moved out of areas at risk of flooding. The shutdown is precautionary, and it is still unsure how long service will be suspended for, the release said.
