Man Charged with County Courthouse Bomb Threat

Bomb threat took place on Oct. 25 and caused courthouse to be evacuated.

The Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office has arrested and charged a man in connection with the Oct. 25 bomb threat against the Monmouth County Courthouse. Ellis W. Goodson, 35, allegedly made a 9-1-1 call on Thursday, Oct. 25 and warned that a bombing would take place at the courthouse that day. In a previous story, Patch had reported that a bomb threat against the courthouse came from a 9-1-1 call at about 12 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25. At that time, the courthouse was evacuated and area K-9 explosives-detecting dogs were brought in to sweep the building.  After the building sweep, no explosives were found, but due to the amount of time required for the investigation, the courthouse was closed for the rest of the day. County Courthouse Opening 1:30 Tuesday

Testing comes back negative

After a week of being closed, the Monmouth County Courthouse will open again on Tuesday afternoon. The building will open to the public as of 1:30 p.m., according to Monmouth County Public Information Officer Laura Kirkpatrick. The New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services said in a press release Monday afternoon that since the courthouse was closed on June 18 all test results have come back negative. The texting and closure came as a result of dozens of employees reported feeling ill on two separate occasions.  State Health Department officials took 10 air samples and also looked for "a wide range of 'volatile organic compounds.'" Monmouth County Courthouse Closed Again

Freehold courthouse will stay closed Monday, as officials wait on testing results.

The Monmouth County Courthouse will remain closed on Monday as officials await the results of testing to determine what in the building has made employees ill recently. Tests were conducted last Thursday and Friday and the building has been closed since last Monday. According to a press release from the county on Sunday, testing has been done for "volatile compounds, mold, pollen, dust and other common allergens." All the results of those tests were negative. The testing came on the heels of employees reporting feeling various symptoms including shortness of breath, skin rash and elevated blood pressure. Monmouth County Courthouse to Remain Closed for Week

The building was evacuated twice after dozens of employees became sick.

The Monmouth County Courthouse will remain closed this week as health officials continue to investigate what caused more roughly 80 employees on Friday and Monday. The New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services will conduct prolonged air quality tests Thursday and Friday, according to a press release issued by the county. Initial testing for common allergens and volatile compounds did not reveal anything out of the ordinary. However, the previous tests were short-term screenings, whereas the state’s testing will be conducted over a 24-hour period. Monmouth Courthouse Closed Wednesday for Allergen Testing

Authorities working to determine source of dozens of illnesses

The Monmouth County Courthouse will again be closed Wednesday as county officials continue to test for the source of what caused about 65 to be sick Monday alone. William K. Heine, director of public information, said in a release that the Freehold building will be sweeped Wednesday in search of possible allergens on workers' desks. The courthouse will be cleaned once testing is complete. The courthouse was closed today after two days of mysterious illnesses forced evacuations. On Friday, 43 people were treated for symptoms including shortness of breath, nausea, chest pain, heart palpitations, rash and dizziness. An update on courthouse evacuation from Monmouth County: The Monmouth County Courthouse closed at 1 p.m. today and will remain closed tomorrow. “For the safety and well-being of employees and individuals with business at the courthouse, the county is cooperating with the state Judiciary to close the building,” Deputy County Administrator Kevin Burke said. “Most employees were notified as they returned from their lunch break today. More Than 20 Treated After Second Monmouth County Courthouse Evacuation

More employees have reported feeling ill. Emergency responders are at the scene of the incident.

Police and emergency responders are on the scene at the Monmouth County Courthouse after it was evacuated due to multiple employees falling ill.  Employees evacuated the building for the second time in two business days. The building was first evacuated on Friday, June 15. The building was evacuated again today at about 1 p.m., and completely closed through tomorrow. A hospital spokesperson told News 12 at least 25 people are being treated at CentraState Medical Center in Freehold, where a decontamination tent has been set up for patients from the courthouse.
