Commuters, Coffee Lovers: Rook is Open

Customers will be able to text in orders and pay for their premium java with smart phones

After months of anticipation, area commuters and coffee lovers can grab a premium cup of Joe right at the train station. Rook Coffee Roaster, launched in 2010 by Oceanport residents Holly Migliaccio and Shawn Kingsley, opened the doors to its newest outpost at the Little Silver Train Station on Monday. “We leaked the word on our Facebook page late on Friday, that we would open our doors in the morning. That small leak helped for a fantastic first day,” said Migliaccio in a release. The Little Silver Borough Council accepted the beanery's $10,800 bid to run the train station's concession area, which had been vacant since 2010, in April. Rook also has locations in Long Branch, Oakhurst and Ocean Township across the street from Wegman's. The …

NJ Transit Fares Won't Increase in 2013

Capital program includes funding for several new trains and buses

Commuting can be stressful and time consuming, but it seems no matter how you slice it it's always expensive. Even buying a monthly rail ticket, it costs about $5,000 a year for the trek from the Red Bank or Little Silver station to New York Penn Station.  With that in mind, it may come as a relief to commuters that NJ Transit will not be upping their fares in 2013. The Board of Directors recently approved a $1.904 billion operating budget and a $1.152 billion capital program for the 2013 fiscal year, which began on July 1, according to a news release from the company. Fares account for $894.2 million, which is nearly half of the operating budget. The remainder is drawn from about $109.8 million in commercial revenues, $363 million in …

Rook Coffee Bid Accepted for Little Silver Train Station

Both sides are still negotiating details before the lease is signed.

Good news coffe lovers: the Little Silver Borough Council accepted a bid from Rook Coffee Roasters on Monday night to run the train station's concession stand. But Holly Migliaccio, co-owner of the popular local beanery, stressed to Patch on Thursday that the lease hasn't been signed and details still need to be negotiated for the three-year deal that they won with their $10,800 bid. What she did share was that the train station outpost will be set up much the same way as the Rook's Long Branch and Oakhurst shops, with coffee sold to-go and no seating. There will also be the same selection of "good, high quality" food, said Migliaccio, like bagels from Red Bank's Bagel Oven and baked treats from Balthazar Bakery. Rook will have the option …

Congratulations! Tasty java and a stronger community. For every $100 spent, local business put $68 back into the local economy vs. $43 with chains/non-local business. http://solenow.org/2012/03/300/   more ›
