Where Will You Stop for Java in R-FH?

Between Rumson and Fair Haven there are several places to stop for coffee. Where do you go and where will you go in the future?

When the windows at Fair Haven's Java Stop became blanketed with makeshift brown packaging paper shades and the coffee was no longer on in the morning, townies and lovers of a good cup of Joe started foaming at the mouth like a latte machine. While the area between the two small peninsula boroughs of Rumson and Fair Haven is saturated with standard morning coffee klatch stops, each has his or her own habitual stop. Not only did the roughly decade-old staple Java Stop close its doors and cut off a morning brew option, but Gourmet Picnic, a couple blocks away on River Road, shut down, too. Creatures of habit, the small-town fans of both places have found themselves looking for a replacement place to stop for coffee. And there's not all bad …

J. Rooster's: New Neighborhood Nook

Fair Haven native Jeremy Haney wants people to think of his casual eatery as a place a to call home

Jeremy Haney always wanted to have his own little nook for locals — a place where they could get together over a bottomless pit cup of coffee, a hearty breakfast or lunch and good conversation. So, he opened J. Rooster's just two weeks ago where Lil’ Masters Grille sat not too long ago in the small strip of stores by the TD Bank in Fair Haven. The transition happened with the flip of a burger, you could say. One day it was Lil’ Masters. The next day it was J. Rooster’s. But the quick change didn’t faze Haney, who has had his own culinary/community concoction in mind for many years. “I grew up right around the corner,” he said. “I even worked here when I was younger, a couple of owners back.
