Consultant on FH's Superintendent Search: It's All in the Process

Leadership Advantage's Richard Morasco, a former Fair Haven interim superintendent, explains why the search process is important. Do you agree? Weigh in.

Go ahead. Ask Leadership Advantage's Richard Morasco why the Fair Haven School District invested the time and money in a superintendent search that only led officials right back their own turf with the appointment of Knollwood School Principal Nelson Ribon. The consultant who conducted the months' long search for a new superintendent will tell you, as he told the Board of Education and public last week, that it's the process that matters most, not the fact that the search ended right behind the district's own doors. And Morasco knows the district well. "It's like home" to him, he said. Morasco was interim superintendent in the district before present superintendent Kathleen Cronin was hired. A former superintendent in Monroe Township, …

Word on Fair Haven's Superintendent

Officials, teachers describe Nelson Ribon in a word ... or two, or ten.

It's official. Knollwood School Principal Nelson Ribon has been appointed as the new superintendent of the Fair Haven School District. As was expected, officials, teachers and parents alike gathered to wish him well at Wednesday night's Board of Education meeting in a small, traditional coffee and cake celebration. Aside from all the standard kudos, people had a lot to say about the new top administrator. Patch asked them to describe him in a word. Some managed. Others just had too much to say about Ribon. The word, or words, are all good. But, on the subject of following direction — which has always been something teachers and administrators demand in this competitive school district — if there were such a category on the new state …

Fair Haven Superintendent Search Over

Knollwood Principal Nelson Ribon slated for approval as new superintendent at tonight's Board of Education meeting

After conducting a months' long search for a new Fair Haven School District superintendent, it turns out that the Board of Education did not have to look any farther than its own ... principal's office. On Friday, a letter was sent out informing parents that Knollwood School Principal Nelson Ribon would be the district's next top administrator. That decision will be officially approved at tonight's Board of Education meeting with a traditional small welcoming cake and coffee celebration, according to outgoing Superintendent Kathleen Cronin. "I think the board made an excellent choice in selecting Nelson, as he is an effective communicator, an instructional leader and is knowledgeable about our district," Cronin, whose pending retirement …

FH Schools: Grading New Report Cards

Report cards will have a slightly new focus and grading system

This coming school year, making the grade is taking on some new meaning for Fair Haven students. With parents’ input, district administration staff and teachers have been retooling the report cards for grades K-5 and 6-8. It’s an evolving process for which “we will be seeking feedback from parents after each report card distribution next year; and we will use that information to determine if additional changes are warranted,” Fair Haven Schools Superintendent Kathleen Cronin said.  The parents’ survey results revealed overwhelmingly that they wanted to see consistency in the grading process, said Katy Frissora, chairwoman of the Fair Haven Board of Education Curriculum Committee, who is the lead coordinator of the effort. How that applied …

Meet the New Principal of Fair Haven's Knollwood School

Nelson Ribon discusses what he brings forth for the students, staff and community as their new principal.

As students return to the Knollwood School for the first day of class on September 6 they will be greeted by the new principal, Nelson Ribon, who hopes to share his excitement and knowledge with them.   “I’m not here to change Knollwood School,” said Ribon. “I’m here to evaluate what is going on and instill my experience, knowledge and passion for what’s going on and making adjustments where needed. It’s about the kids.” By taking the realm as the leader of the school, Ribon wants a safe learning environment for the kids, staff and community. With close to 600 students enrolled for the upcoming school year at Knollwood, Ribon is ready and excited for the challenge, he said. Getting acquainted with the programs and staff at a new school …
