Familiar Fair Haven Names in News

Who's who and who's appointed to what

Some familiar Fair Haven names were part of the Borough Council meeting agenda Monday night. The governing body, via resoluton, made appointments to the Fair Haven Fire Department and Public Works. Two were appointed to affiliate memberships in the Fire Department and both have Fair Haven family and police ties: • Sherri M. Lambert, a sergeant with the Fair Haven Police Department; • and Daniel L. Chernavsky, of 154 Hance Road. One last familiar name on the appointment agenda was that of Darryl Glen Breckenridge Jr., who was appointed to continue in a part-time position in Public Works at $11 an hour to assist in completing work through 2013. The appointment was extended at the request of the supervisor of Public Works, according to the …

Familiar R-FH Area Names in Fire Academy News

Monmouth County Fire Academy graduates include men from Fair Haven and Sea Bright

Among the 59 Monmouth County Fire Academy Firefighter I program graduates, two are from Fair Haven and two from Sea Bright. Graduates were divided into two classes: Class 96 graduated Jan. 22 and Class 97 graduated Jan. 23. Both ceremonies were held at the county Fire Academy on Route 33, Howell. Graduates worked 188 hours over 30 sessions and received training in rescue, fire extinguishment, hazardous materials response, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, electrical safety, and care of hoses, ladders and other equipment.  Freeholder John P. Curley told both classes of graduates that they would always remember their initial firefighter training and how Superstorm Sandy jump started their service to their communities. “This type of an …

Celebrating a FH Volunteer's Birthday

Ethel Hodgkiss Truex surprised by many Rumson and Fair Havenites

Ethel Hodgkiss Truex thought she was going to Atlantic City on Saturday night. The well-known Fair Haven Fire Company volunteer made it only as far as the Fair Haven Firehouse. Her husband, Joe Truex, former captain and present 2nd lieutenant of the Fair Haven First Aid Squad told her he had to pick up something at the station before they took off. He also told her to come into the truck bay with him to help. When he pressed the button and the door rose, Ethel was shocked to find a crowd of Rumson and Fair Haven friends with roots in the area as steeped as hers cheering her on for her, shall we say, 39th (ahem) birthday? Much love and appreciation was shown for Ethel, her volunteerism and longstanding friendships in the community. For a …

Set-Up: The Fair Haven Firemen's Fair

Volunteers are needed for this year's fair

It's a sure sign summer is coming to a close when you drive by the Fair Haven Firehouse and see Majestic Midway trucks, dismantled amusement rides and cleared fire truck bays. They're setting up for "the fair." To Fair Havenites, that's what the Fair Haven Firemen's Fair is — simply, "the fair." It has always marked endings and new beginnings: R-FH students meeting up on the grounds and saying their week-long good-byes before heading off to college; kids coming back together before school starts and talking about who got what teacher; and those many familiar volunteer faces handing out balloons and prizes and serving up some classic fair food. It's always the last year in August, but, to be exact, this year, the fair runs from Aug. 24 to …

Fair Haven Fire Department adds another member to its all-volunteer roster along with a couple for Sea Bright.

For the past 40 years, the Monmouth County Fire Academy has been training firefighters to protect all of Monmouth County. Earlier this week the members of the 92nd and 93rd Firefighter class were recognized in front of a packed room of family and friends for their training accomplishment.  "The program consisted of 180 hours of training which took place over 14 Saturdays or Sundays and 15 night classes with a homework test provided each night," said Chief William Itinger.  "They had off for holidays but worked through the rain and even snow this year.” During those 180 hours, each firefighter was trained in search and rescue, ladders, hose operations, fire ground safety, property conservation, disability training, basic forest fire and …

Vintage Victorian Home Destroyed by Fire in Little Silver

Candles lit for a holiday party in the Carriage House Lane house caught curtains and touched off the blaze. The family escaped unharmed.

A Victorian-era home on Carriage House Lane in Little Silver was destroyed Saturday, with several area fire departments called in to knock down the flames. All of the occupants were evacuated before the major damage took place. Officials said the fire began in the circa 1892 Queen Anne style home at 28 Carriage House Lane when preparations for an annual Christmas party at the Loftus residence went terribly wrong. The Red Cross and neighbors have offered assistance to the Loftus family. The Loftus' will be staying with family during their displacement. The American Red Cross, Jersey Coast Chapter can be reached at 732-493-9100.  Five candles lit in the kitchen between the sink and curtains caught the curtains on fire, and flames quickly …

Antique cars, music and fun will take you back in time this weekend at the Fair Haven Fire Department 11th Annual Fall Car Show. Fair Haven Fire Police (FHFP) and Womens’ Auxiliary are sponsoring the car show on Saturday, October 15 from 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. “It is the only fundraiser of the year for these two organizations,” explains Gene Stefanelli, the president of the FHFP. “The show is a chance to step back in time and think about past eras,” said Katy Frissora, vice president of the Fair Haven EMS. She says more than just cars offer a blast from the past at the event. “Some of the cars have vintage items associated with their year such as clothing, music and displays.” According to Stefanelli, there will be lots to look at. “…
