There was full house of fundraisers at the the Fair Haven Day Gala at the Raven and the Peach on Saturday. Officials, residents and other supporters of this year's Fair Haven Day, set for June 15, showed to eat, drink, dance, win raffle prizes and socialize. Fair Haven Day is an annual event now
People asked for it and they got it — an annual Fair Haven Day. Due to a major influx of requests for the yearly day stemming from the overwhelming popularity of last summer's Fair Haven Centennial Day, the governing body decided to declare one June Saturday a year to the all-day community gathering at Fair Haven Fields. This year it's June 15. Cost was a concern, but the non-profit Foundation of Fair Haven stepped up to the plate and offered to continue to raise funds to absorb some of it. The food tab, Mayor Ben Lucarelli said, could then be covered by a nominal charge this and every year thereafter. "It cost us about $22,000," Lucarelli said recently. Tonight's Fair Haven Borough Council meeting agenda is flush with borough celebration plans and accolades, among other things. The following items are slated for review at the 7 p.m. meeting at Borough Hall: • Remember Alabama Power's $10,000 donation to the American Red Cross in Fair Haven's name for Hurricane Sandy recovery? Mayor Ben Lucarelli says that tonight is the night that borough officials will present the check (or checks, as it may be broken down into two) to Red Cross principals. • On the workshop agenda is also a planned discussion about Fair Haven Day, slated for June.
