R-FH Teens Who Sparked Sandy Looting Rumor Indicted on Burglary, Theft Charges

Five teens, including two juveniles, allegedly burglarized a Buena Vista Avenue home.

Three Rumson-Fair Haven area teens have been indicted on burglary and theft charges stemming from a post-Hurricane Sandy incident in Rumson. Rumson police in January arrested five teens — two of them juveniles — who were allegedly responsible for the post-Sandy looting of a Buena Vista Avenue home sometime between Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 that sparked a borough-wide rumor of mass-looting, police said. The three teens over the age of 18 are now facing the charges of burglary and theft of moveable property, third-degree crimes, handed down by a grand jury in the indictment signed by Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni. Facing one count each of the charges are: Emily Garrison, 18, of 14 Battin Road, Fair Haven; Luke Jacobs, 19…

Rumson Police: Burglaries on Brookside

Detective Chris Isherwood says police want residents to take notice

What police consider unusual criminal activity for Rumson, there have been two home burglaries on the same street since the beginning of February. The houses, which sit across from one another on Brookdside Drive, were forceably entered and "jewelry and electronics were (allegedly) stolen from both," Rumson Police Detective Chris Isherwood told Patch. Both hits were likely done by the same person, he added. Isherwood did not reveal the value of the merchandise, as the matter is still under investigation, but said it was significant enough for police "to get the information out there so people are aware and can keep on their toes." While Isherwood said that there have not been a lot of burglary calls in Rumson lately, it does happen and, on…

Yes, thank you Chief Paterson. But after a number of similar thefts, I didn't hear from Nixie or the Code Red thing. Perhaps, then, I should check the boro website everytime I spend a day away from my house. Certainly you're right that I should take more care (who shouldn't?), but still.....   more ›

Blue Stove Antiques Burglarized Again

The Fair Haven shop was the spot of a June armed robbery and other burglaries

Fair Haven's Blue Stove Antiques has been hit by burglars again. And police are keeping a close eye on the place, as it has been targeted several times before. Most recently, the River Road shop was burglarized on Jan. 15 and, according to police, roughly $10,000 worth of watches were stolen. Before that, in June, there was an armed robbery at the store, during which the owner was accosted and held at gunpoint by a disguised Robert Fiolka, of Staten Island, NY, while merchandise was stolen. Dating back, the store has been burglarized several times before as well, Fair Haven Police Detective Stephen Schneider said. "The armed robber, Rober Fiolka, was caught in September and is now incarcerated," the detective added. Fiolka had a criminal …

Incident allegedly occurred at a Rumson home in wake of hurricane

The alleged singular incident at a Buena Vista Avenue home, that occurred in the night time sometime between Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, is what ignited an unfounded borough-wide rumor of mass looting, when this was the only incident, Rumson Police Chief Scott Paterson said. "People heard about this one incident and word spread like wildfire that there was looting going on all throughout the borough after Sandy," Paterson said. "That wasn't the case at all. It was just this one, singular incident, which we had been …
