Moose's Tavern Replaces Charlie Brown's

The restaurant, which serves tavern fare like burgers and steaks, opened on Monday.

Moose's Tavern opened on Monday night where long-vacant former Charlie Brown's restaurant sat in Tinton Falls. The chain steakhouse had been vacant since 2010. Now, Moose's, located at 1202 Sycamore Ave., offers traditional tavern fare — like classic burgers and prime rib — as well as some more creative dishes like boneless shortribs served with mozzarella on a pretzel roll, according to the restaurant's Web site. The tavern celebrated its official grand opening on Monday, March 4, with a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by Tinton Falls Mayor Michael Skudera and Administrator Gerry Turning.  Moose’s Tavern opens at 11:30 a.m. daily and serves lunch and dinner.

I've been away too long and didn't even know Charlie Brown's closed. When I lived right down the street from it years ago, I went there a lot and always enjoyed it. Not sure how Moose's is going to make it if they didn't.   more ›

Skating Away to a New Sonic Drive-In

The retro drive-thru is open next door in Middletown

Jay and Cathy Grillo of Keansburg were parked in their car at noon on a recent Sunday, feasting on grilled cheese and Tater Tots with ketchup at a nearby outpost of Sonic, the national burger fast food chain that features delivery by 1950s-style carhops on roller skates.  It was their second trip to the fast-food restaurant at Route 35 and Harmony Road in Middletown since it opened 10 days before.  "I like the carhops," Jay Grillo said through his rolled down window. "It brings back a little face-to-face atmosphere. It's more personal." His wife was more blunt. "I'm pregnant," she said. "I had a craving."  It won't take long for business to heat up, said franchise owner Anthony Cirillo, of Freehold. The warm weather will bring customers …

Coming Soon: Three Fair Haven Eateries

Three closed shops will reopen as new places to get coffee, burgers and gourmet take-out

The signs of some new places to grab a bite and a beverage are sprouting up along River Road in Fair Haven, signaling a new start for some old mainstay spots. La Fandy has been empty for some time, and Patch has just received word that the popular Kind Burgers, a victim of Hurricane Sandy in Sea Bright, will take the spot. Rumson owners Yvette and Anthony Cafaro are thrilled to have found the place to relocate and rebuild their specialty burger business, after seeing the building they leased all washed away to Sandy. They had only been open for a couple months, since the end of August. "We started construction this week and plan to be open by April," Yvette Cafaro said. "We are very excited to bring Kind Burgers to Fair Haven where we will…

Conversation: Bobby Flay, Burger Boss

Chef and restaurateur opens new restaurant at local mall

The latest addition to the Freehold Raceway Mall arrived on Wednesday morning when Bobby Flay opened his newest Bobby's Burger Palace. The restaurant offers wide variety of options, including Flay's well-known hamburgers, sandwiches and sides. And there was a crowd waiting to try the food and meet the Iron Chef himself. Patch managed to get a few minutes with the burger king, himself. Check out the video above.

It's a Downtown Burger Bounty

Where there were none as little as six months ago, there are now three burger joints in downtown Red Bank.

When Dhruman Shah signed his lease in January, taking residence in half the space formerly occupied by popular Red Bank combo coffee shop and café Zebu Forno, he saw potential in developing what the downtown lacked. It was a simple idea, yet at the time completely unique to the downtown. He’d provide a burger spot offering fresh food fast. Fast forward 11 months and through some construction and permitting delays and Shah’s Boardwalk Fresh Burgers and Fries has opened its doors on Broad Street, the third burger joint to open downtown in just the last six months. It wasn’t something he was expecting, but, like his burgers, the competition is on. “The area here is really nice and I see that here (in Red Bank) and in surrounding towns there’s…

While it's better to have something in those spots, I'd rather see a store that sells things like cards and practical items like light bulbs. With the closing of the Papery a year or so ago, and most recently Professional Pharmacy, Rite Aid and Foodtown are the only stores left for that. Also, there do not seem to be any bakeries where you can buy a regular cake without ordering it beforehand? …   more ›

Different 'Kind' of Burger Joint Opens in Sea Bright

Kind Burgers offers Angus, Kobe, lamb, turkey and portobello burgers with the option of gluten-free rolls.

Just a couple weeks past schedule, Kind Burgers has rolled back its giant storefront windows to let the aroma of grilling beef flow out onto the sidewalks of downtown Sea Bright. "My children have been waiting with bated breath for this place to open," said Kate Grossardh, of Rumson. She and her son Will visited the new burger joint on Tuesday for a Kobe burger and and some Bell and Evans gluten-free chicken tenders. "We live right over the bridge so it's a close walk to somewhere that actually has healthy food," she said. Will, 8, seemed less concerned with the healthful benefits of his chicken tenders and more with how hungry he was after his three-hour practice with his soccer team, the Rumson Dirty Dawgs. "The food is good," he said …
