The Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School Bulldog football team beat the Barnegat Bengals 21-16.
The Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) Varsity football team opened their season with a victory against the Barnegat Bengals. Barnegat was the first to put points on the board and by halftime the Dawgs were down 13-0, but the Dawgs on the field and in the Dawg Pound believed in this team and their ability to come from behind. Although the dogs and cats scratched and clawed their way up and down the field, it was the Bulldogs that earned the win with a final score of 21-16. It was a perfect night for football. The sky was eerily beautiful over Borden Stadium. The student body planned a black out with fans wearing all black. There was a very large crowd in attendance hoping for a win and the Bulldogs did not disappoint their fans…

Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School is coming off its first NJSIAA title in program history and has the talent to make a run at back-to-back championships.
The football team at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School enters this season in a position it has never encountered in the history of its program. For the first time since the current state playoff system began in 1974, the Bulldogs come into a season as defending sectional champions. They shocked previously undefeated Matawan, 13-7, to capture the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group II crown, their first state sectional title, after having lost to the Huskies during the regular season. Now comes the hard part – defending it. “We've never won a state title before so it's certainly uncharted territory,’’ said head coach Shane Fallon, who enters his 14th season with 89 career wins. “Now we have to see how we're going to handle success. So far we'…

They hope to get over the hump against second-seeded Jackson Memorial when the action gets underway on June 1 at 5:00 p.m. on the turf at St. John Vianney. Rumson, which won the program’s only SCT title in 2007, has not lost to a Shore Conference opponent all season and boasts a regular-season win over Jackson. RFH senior guard Kevin Alter beat the odds to earn a Division I basketball scholarship to Navy.
On the surface, the chances of Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School senior Kevin Alter becoming a Division I basketball player seemed like the definition of a long shot. Alter is a point guard generously listed at 5-foot-8 who was not a starter until his junior year of high school. In addition, he played at a small-school program that had not even advanced to the Shore Conference Tournament semifinals in its long history until this past winter. Also, the Bulldogs had not produced a Division I player who signed right out of high school in at least the last 20 years, so it's not like they were a regular destination for college recruiters. (Former 7-footer Will Martell played a prep year at The Hun School before signing with Rhode Island in…

RFH routed Matawan 16-6 in six innings on Tuesday to advance to the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group II quarterfinals.
For Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School's (RFH) baseball team, this season has been all about the fact that it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish. A team that was 2-7 in mid-April is now in the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group II quarterfinals after a 16-6 rout of division rival Matawan in six innings on Tuesday at Dieter Johnson Memorial Field. The victory brought the 11th-seeded Bulldogs (10-10) back to the .500 mark for the first time since they were 1-1 in the first week of the season. They will now travel to third-seeded Governor Livingston for a quarterfinal game on Friday afternoon. “We just have everybody hitting right now and we’re playing our best at the right time,’’ said shortstop Chris Lorenz. After a slow start to the …

Hi Stump, Thank you so much for writing about this young talented team at RFH. The varsity baseball team has come together and showing how talented they are at the right time. My son Dakota Sagnelli has fit into the RFH high school family well since coming here to start his 2nd year from Manalapan High School. He has done well under the guidance of Kevin James and the leadership of the three …   more ›
