Southern Exposure: Jersey Shore Boat Show

Attendees can board 60 boat brands at weekend event

The 2012 Fall Jersey Shore Boat Sale and Expo will start today. The boat show, held at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood, is organized by the Marine Traders Association of New Jersey and will feature new and pre-owned boats and accessories for sale by retailers up and down the New Jersey coast. The show is one of two the organization hosts at the ball park each year. The show started several years ago provide local boat dealers and marine businesses a local venue where they could display their offerring at a price lower than some of the major boat shows in Atlantic City, Philadelphia and New York City, show officials have said. Scene Focus: Boats, Sky & Victory Park

After days of volatile weather, the sunshine was bold and bright as yesterday drew to an end. From the shores of Rumson's Victory Park, the scene was mellow and mesmerizing as boats were docked and a few boaters kayaked out to the horizon and back and the sun started to set. Building and Boating on the Navesink

In an event hosted by the Navesink Maritime Heritage Association, boats were built in Fair Haven over the weekend and taken for a ride on the river.

Several mariners were up the Navesink with a paddle on Sunday. Build a boat and paddle it up the Navesink River was the credo of boaters, young and old, over the weekend in Fair Haven. The Navesink Maritime Heritage Association hosted its annual Community Wooden Boat Building Festival; and, by Sunday afternoon quite a few boats were afloat on the river. The tradition, continued this year, is for boat building teams to mobilize behind the Fair Haven firehouse starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday — in this case, June 9 — in teams of two adults and up to four kids who are at least 11. The teams build canoes with the assistance of experienced boat builders, until 5 p.m. on Saturday. Everyone returns on Sunday to put the finishing touches on the …
