R-FH Nominated for Slew of Basie Awards

The annual awards recognize Monmouth County high school talent

They're the Tony Awards of area high schools' way off-Broadway stars — The Basie Awards. And it's showtime for the list of this year's nominees. For the 2012-13 high school theater season, Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (R-FH) was nominated for a slew of awards for its musical production of Aida (see nominees in bold on list below). In the drama category, R-FH garnered several nominations for its production of A Christmas Carol (see below). Intended as a means for effective community outreach the Count Basie Theatre staff created the Basie Awards in 2006. This is its eighth year. The awards honor talent and top performances in Monmouth County high school musical theater and drama.  All high schools in the county are eligible for …

Austin Ryan, Patty McCarron and Devin Stypa, all 2011 R-FH grads appear in '42nd Street'

If you’re looking to cap your Fourth of July week with some all-American entertainment by some hometown talent, get to the Axelrod Performing Arts Center in Deal to see a very familiar team of Rumson-Fair Haven alumni stars shine in the theater's production of 42nd Street. Tonight and Sunday, Austin Ryan and Patty McCarron, both of Rumson, can be seen together again on the stage at the theater where they appeared in South Pacific last year. Also in the musical is R-FH graduate Devin Stypa, of Rumson as well. All three are members of the R-FH Class of 2011. Ryan and McCarron, who play Billy Lawlor and Peggy Sawyer, respectively, played opposite one another in the R-FH production of Fiddler on the Roof as Tevye and Golde. Stypa, who danced …

The seventh annual Basie Awards show was held last night on the Count Basie Theatre stage. The awards promote high school theater and recognize the top stage production and performances of the year. Check out the video above for a glimpse at the 2012 Basie Awards.

Winners from Wednesday night's seventh annual Basie Awards, an event that recognizes high school performing arts.

For the seventh year, the Count Basie Theatre has helped enrich and promote high school theater by recognizing the county's best performances with the Basie Awards.  As the years have progressed, so too has the reach of the Basie Awards. When Numa Saisselin, CEO of the Count Basie Theatre, developed the Basie Awards seven years ago, 15 schools participated. This year 24 schools from all over Monmouth County took part in evaluation process, which as also grown over the years, from 25 during the first Basie Awards season to more than 40. Basie Award Nominees Revealed

Nominations for the seventh annual Basie Awards were announced earlier this week.

For the seventh year, the Count Basie Theatre is recognizing high school performing arts with the Basie Awards, a program that's committed to fostering an appreciation of the arts and honoring excellence in high school theater. Last year, an all-time high of 25 Monmouth County private, public, and vocational high schools participated in the Basie Awards. On Wednesday in the Carlton Lounge, Basie officials unveiled this year's list of Basie Awards nominees which includes several nominations from Rumson Fair Haven Regional High School. RFH's Carole Malik Dominates Basie Best Costume Awards

Malik took home the Basie Award for Outstanding Costumes in a Drama and Outstanding Costume Design in a Musical on Wednesday night.

Carole Malike has been designing costumes for Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School shows for over 10 years. She makes all of the theatre costumes in house and her hard work and talent were recognized at this year's Basie Awards. On May 25, the Count Basie Theatre announced winners for its Sixth Annual Basie Awards.  The distinction recognizes outstanding achievement in the dramatic and musical theater productions of Monmouth County's high school theater companies. Malik dominated the Outstanding Costume Design category taking home two awards" one for design in a drama and another for design in a musical. On May 25, the Count Basie Theatre announced winners for its Sixth Annual Basie Awards.  The distinction recognizes outstanding achievement in the dramatic and musical theater productions of Monmouth County's high school theater companies.  The event featured performances by the casts of the Best Musical nominees, medleys featuring the nominees for Outstanding Lead Actress and Lead Actor, and a list of presenters that included a who's who in Monmouth County academia and performing arts.  Twenty three high schools competed in 25 categories and over 1,300 students participated in the awards ceremony, evidenced by the thunderous roar of the audience when each nominee and winner was announced. Wednesday, brings the Sixth Annual Basie Awards to the historic Count Basie Theatre. The Basie Awards honor the outstanding achievements of Monmouth County High School theater.  Awards are handed out for exceptional performances in dramatic and musical productions that have been performed by high schools throughout the year. The awards also feature live performances by the casts of Best Musical nominees and celebrity presenters from across Monmouth County.
