In the past month, Rumson residents have been arrested in Red Bank and Shrewsbury on simple assault and controlled dangerous substance possession charges. The following are the arrest records from each town: • Ira Zohn, 68, of Rumson, was arrested on April 24 in the area of Monmouth Street, Red Bank and charged with simple assault by Red Bank Police Patrolman Jonathan Quispe. • James R. Zeller, 50, of Rumson, was arrested on April 9 by Shrewsbury Police Patrolman Adam Cerminaro and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the area of Shrewsbury Avenue, Shrewsbury.

Police reported the following incidents and arrest next door in Red Bank: • Lee Marchetti, 22, of Eatontown, was arrested on April 16 in the area of Leighton Avenue on charges of being a fugitive from justice on out-of-state battery charges, possession of hypodermic syringe and other drug paraphernalia by Patrolman James DePonte and Patrolman Nicholas Maletto. • Criminal mischief and theft were reported on April 11, but occurred between April 2 and 3 on Shrewsbury Avenue. The victim reported that unknown person(s) cut locks to garages in the rear of a property and stole a table saw, chop saw, framing gun and two step ladders. Michele Thompson was charged with distribution of marijuana and endangering the welfare of a child.
In the school district next door to Fair Haven's, Little Silver's school psychologist was suspended by the district following an arrest last month for alleged distribution of marijuana and child endangerment. Michele J. Thompson, 45, Ocean Park Avenue, Bradley Beach was charged Jan. 21 with distribution of marijuana and several counts of child endangerment following an investigation by Bradley Beach Police, according to APP.com. Harold A. Sturm, 50, also of Ocean Park Avenue in Bradley Beach, was also charged. According to Little Silver Board of Education President Christian Smith, the board "became aware of a situation in which an employee was charged with alleged criminal activity." In Little Silver: • Louis Haynes, 24, of Fair Haven, was arrested on Jan. 13 following a motor vehicle stop on Branch Avenue, Little Silver, and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon. Officer Amanda Arnold made the arrest. • John Anderson, 47, of Rumson, was arrested on Jan. 17 following a motor vehicle stop on Church Street, Little Silver, and charged with for driving while intoxicated. Officer Amanda Arnold made the arrest. In Red Bank: • Michael Kroon, 29, of Rumson, was arrested on Feb. 5 in the area of White Street, Red Bank, and charged with disorderly conduct and criminal mischief by Patrolman Jhonatan Quispe.

Little Silver police arrested and charged a Highlands man with aggravated assault following a Dec. 9 incident. The man, who was arrested on Sunday, allegedly repeatedly punched a Little Silver resident with a "closed fist," according to court documents. His name was not released by police. Patrolman Frank Salerno made the arrest. The accused was held on $2,500 bail with a 10 percent option and will make his first court appearance on Dec. 20.

I haven't seen anything of police report stories in the arhives of the Red Bank Register that compare to what we find today about any police-related activity in Patch or any other media outlet of today, for that matter. In the police reports of this era, the papers are strewn with fatal car crashes involving young people, drug possession charges, burglaries, shoplifting, credit card fraud, theft by deception and people picked up on outstanding warrants. One hundred years ago, most people did not have cars, they were drinkers instead of druggies, and credit cards did not exist. There was no such thing as a warrant. After a near two-month investigation, the June armed robbery case at Fair Haven's Blue Stove Antiques has been solved, Fair Haven police announced today. A Staten Island man has been arrested and charged with the robbery that occurred the morning of June 2, according to a release from Fair Haven Police Detective Stephen Schneider. On Aug. 31, members of the FBI, Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and Fair Haven and Wall police departments issued arrested Robert Fiolka, 68, of Staten Island, NY and charged him with the armed robbery of the River Road antiques store, police said. Fair Haven police discovered both men had warrants out for their arrest.
Two men were arrested in Fair Haven yesterday after being stopped for a traffic violation. According to the Fair Haven Police Department, Patrolman Christian Hostrup stopped a car on Kemp Ave at approximately 12:42 a.m. on July 3. Police said 22-year-old Bruce Thompson II of Red Bank was driving the car. Thompson was found to have outstanding traffic warrants from various municipalities and a warrant for a violation for his probation. 32-year-old Todd Gundersen of Middletown was the passenger and was found to have outstanding traffic warrants from various municipalities and was also placed under arrest.
