A flashback to the night Fair Haven honored Alabama Power with a proclamation and reception in December
When Alabama Power came back to visit what workers had dubbed their new "Sweet Home Fair Haven" to be honored by the borough, everyone was overcome with emotion. Fair Haven residents had come to love Alabama Power and call the company's workers their heroes when they came into town and got electricity up and running after Hurricane Sandy turned the lights off in the borough for nearly two weeks. Above is a flashback moment of that night on Dec. 11, 2012 when workers recalled their experiences in Fair Haven and Alabama Power's principals handed over a check for $10,000 from the people of Fair Haven to the American Red Cross for Sandy recovery. Take a look. Were you there? What impressed you most about Alabama Power workers that night? Patch…

Alabama Power donates $10K on behalf of Fair Haven to Red Cross
It all started with a few burgers, a fired up grill and heap of hospitality in the face of adversity. It was after Hurricane Sandy. Fair Haven was dark. Some experts came to town to turn the lights back on; and spirits quickly grew warm. The people of Fair Haven showed the workers of Alabama Power some down-home comfort and appreciation as they rolled their utility trucks in to save the day and get everyone in the borough, and all over the area, out of the dark. Resident Heather Heard wandered over to Fair Haven Fields, where the utility trucks were lined up and readying to make massive repairs. She decided to fire up the grill and cook the men some burgers. It was a small way to say thanks, she figured. Before long, residents filed in …

Take a look back on people who made an impact in the Rumson-Fair Haven area in 2012. Who do you think should be the person of the year?
The year 2012 was a hectic one, though one filled with many special people who did some significant things, hit major milestones, or were just present in the community. Remember these people? Let's take a look back ... • Olympian Connor Jaeger, the Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School alumni and Fair Haven resident got the community revved up when he made it to the 2012 Summer Olympic Trials. We followed Jaeger through his Olympic journey, from finding all the signs of support around the area to cheering him on remotely as he swam his way into the Olympics and finally, to his homecoming parade. • Longtime Fair Haven resident Ken Lockwood turned 90, after having lived in the borough for more than 80 years. Ken had some special stories to …

Fair Haven honored the power company for saving the day
They were sent to this little town called Fair Haven, far from home, to fix the electricity in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. The workers of Alabama Power had never heard of it. But, in just a few days' time, it became their home, too. Just over a month later, they were celebrated last night for what very appreciative people in the 1.6-square-mile borough called heroic help in a time of need. And, in a surprise turn-around move that brought Fair Haven residents and officials to a teary-eyed standing ovation, Alabama Power Company presented a check for $10,000 made out to the American Red Cross to "assist in Sandy recovery efforts" in the area and revive the shores on which their Fair Haven "family" grew up and loves so, Alabama Power Project…

Dubbed the borough's "knights in shining armor" in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, Fair Haven plans special meeting to honor the power company
The lights are on in Fair Haven and a slew of residents and officials are soon welcoming Alabama Power people back "home" in the borough. This time, however, there will be no work involved in the stay. It will only be a homecoming of sorts for the utility workers dubbed hometown heroes in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. "First, representatives of the company will be coming to town to film a documentary-type (industrial) video for the company," Mayor Ben Lucarelli said. "They'll start filtering into town on or about Dec. 7 and 8 to film. Anyone who would like to be included and has something to say about the workers can give a call to Fair Haven Borough Hall too see if something can be scheduled." Then, on Monday, Dec. 10, the mayor said, a …

Fair Haven officials discuss ongoing problems with JCP&L and call attention to an autographed helmet and kids craft cards for electricity "heroes"
"Ma'am, in my truck I have a chainsaw, poles, wires ... everything I need right there to take care of things in one trip. Here, they do things different. They have special crews for every different thing. I don't understand that." That was an impromptu imitation of an Alabama Power worker by Fair Haven Administrator Theresa Casagrande as she lauded their crews' efficiency in getting residents in the Rumson-Fair Haven area connected after 10 to 14 days without electricity after Hurricane Sandy. It was all part of a conversation at Tuesday's Borough Council meeting, when the governing body discussed post-storm damage and issues, identifying an ongoing problem with Jersey Central Power & Light's (JCP&L) lack of efficiency in getting power …

Residents rally to feed the guys restoring their power
"Yes, ma'am!" said an Alabama Power worker when asked if Fair Haven was treating him and his colleagues well as they took a lunch break Sunday while wrapping up their efforts to get the borough powered up after nearly two weeks without. He was one of many in a much welcomed cavalry of out of- and in-state power restoration crews working to complete the task so many in the slightly more than one-square-mile town's residents were anxious to see completed — lights on in the entire borough. For the past few days, thrilled to see the crews, residents Brian Drazin and Heather Heard have spearheaded an effort to feed them. And they've been fed ... very well and with gratitude. While all the crews parked at Fair Haven Fields chowed down on some …

A note asking for assistance from Fair Haven resident Brian Drazin: Dear Neighbors, Alabama power workers and other out of state workers have tirelessly worked to restore our power and are making great strides to solve our problems. You may have noticed their trucks coordinating out of Fair Haven Fields. Heather Heard and a small group have been trying out of the goodness of their hearts to provide hot meals to them over the last two days. These guys deserve our hospitality. PLEASE join us at the snack bar facility any time tomorrow, Sunday, Nov. 11, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to help provide lunch to these out of state workers!!! Bob Sickles is sending over soup and other hot items. We need paper or plastic utensils and plates, fresh …

Alabama Power out in force and at work restoring electricity
The latest from Fair Haven Mayor Ben Lucarelli is that power should be restored to 95 percent of the borough by Saturday. Now, more signs of light are being seen throughout the borough, Forman Street being the latest Patch heard about after last night’s connection of parts of River Road, Hance Road and some side streets off Hance. Residents will be seeing more of Alabama Power crew members out and about in neighborhoods, Lucarelli said. “These guys are very good at what they do,” he added. “There are 20 plus trucks out there and engineers and assessors for each one of the crews working. And there are more on the way. I’m told they have a reputation for being very deliberate and astute in their actions and we’re lucky to have them. They got…
