Weekend of Sun, 15 Fun Things to Do

What's going on in the Rumson-Fair Haven area this weekend.


It looks like good weather is going to pave the way for some area weekend events and activities.

From Friday through Sunday, there's plenty to do in the area — from fundraisers to walks and waterborne competition.

Here's a list of what's going on in the Rumson-Fair Haven and Red Bank-Shrewsbury areas:

Friday …

• The Knights of Columbus in Fair Haven is hosting a fundraiser dubbed Peace, Love and Miracles for Molly Richards. Molly is a 2-year-old Fair Haven toddler with an inoperable brain tumor. Click here for more information.

Phoenix Productions' Damn Yankees is playing at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank. Curtain time is 8 p.m. For more details, check the Count Basie website at www.countbasietheatre.org.

On Borrowed Time is running at the Two River Theater Co. in Red Bank. The production is directed by Joel Grey. Curtain is at 8 p.m. Check the Two River website at www.tworivertheater.org.

• The Coaches' Reception for the Rumson Boat Race will be held at the Rumson Country Club tonight from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Check Patch's story on the event.

• There are also Walking Lantern Ghost Tours in Red Bank. People are asked to meet in front of the Dublin House at 8 p.m. for the tour's start at 8:30.

Saturday …

• Starting at about 7 a.m., the Rumson Boat Race gets started near the shores of Victory Park. Click here for more.

Touch-a-Truck will come to the parking lot of the Fair Haven Firehouse at 645 River Road starting at 10 a.m.. Sponsored by The Newcomers Club of Rumson, Fair Haven, Little Silver and Shrewsbury, the event's proceeds will go to support Sea Bright Rising. Click here for more information

• The Mayor's Wellness Campaign Community Walk starts at Marine Park in Red Bank at 10 a.m. Sign-up is at 9:30. There will be snacks, activities and raffles.

Damn Yankees is playing again Saturday night at the Basie in Red Bank, with an 8 p.m. curtain.

On Borrowed Time is at Two River Theater again on Saturday, with an 8 p.m. curtain.

Sunday …

The Red Bank Farmers Market will be in the Galleria parking lot from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• There will be 3 p.m. matinees of both On Borrowed Time and Damn Yankees.

• Locals are also gathering to have a swim for Cole Porter, the Shrewsbury cyclist injured in the Tour de Fair Haven.

Those who wish to join in are asked to meet at Lot B at Sandy Hook. Kayakers are invited as well for the 3.5-mile tour under the Highlands (Captain Joseph Azzolina Memorial) Bridge and Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge. Swimmers will sport pink bathing caps.

• The Shrewsbury Historical Society is hosting its Autumn Harvest Party at the historic Narrowgate Farm home of Evelyn Bonanno from 4 to 7 p.m. Cost is $35 per person and parking is available at the Shrewsbury Municipal Complex.
