Support Breast Cancer Awareness By Decorating Your House Pink

Residents are asked to pink out their homes in honor of the 5th Annual "Paint the Town Pink" initiative sponsored by Riverview Medical Center.

There is only one day left to sign-up to "Pink Your Home" to help raise awareness of the importance of breast cancer prevention, detection, and treatment.

Residents of Red Bank, Monmouth Beach an Fair Haven are encouraged to transform their towns into Pink Bank, Pink Beach and Pink Haven. Residents can turn their towns pink for seven days this spring by “Pinking Their Homes” from April 30 through May 7, the week of this year’s Paint the Town Pink initiative sponsored by Riverview Medical Center.

To sign up for the “Pink Your House” contest all residents have to do is fill out a form on the Paint the Town Pink Web site. Each participating home will receive a pink starter kit to get the pink creativity flowing. Residents can either decorate their houses using the starter kit, or they can enter the house decorating contest and put their creativity to the test. In past years, residents have wowed the judges with some unique PINK decorations and survivor tributes.

Once a resident registers, the starter kit will be dropped off to your home. It will include a pink lawn sign, pink light bulb, Paint the Town Pink flag, pink ribbon, pink window cling, as well as a washable pink window marker.

The contest entrants will be judged by a panel of Pink judges between April 27 - April 30. There will be three winners per town, one in each category of: Most Creative, In Honor of a Survivor, and Pinkest House.

Paint the Town Pink helps Riverview Medical Center stress the importance of breast cancer awareness. "Each year, we work to encourage all women in our community, aged 40 and older, to have their annual mammogram, as well as raise money to provide mammography to the uninsured and underserved in our community," said the organization in a recent released statement about the initiative.

In addition to the house decorating contest, residents can continue to support breast cancer awareness by shopping and eating out! Throughout the first week in May, remember to take advantage of pink specials at more than 200 Pink Partner businesses. As people shop and dine, they may also pledge to have their annual mammogram, pick up educational information about breast health, and contribute to pink piggy banks to help other women have their annual mammogram.
