Facebook Page Created to Support Injured Tour de Fair Haven Cyclist

There will be a ride in support of injured cyclist Cole Porter beginning at Marine Park tonight.

People are really pulling for Cole Porter, the Shrewsbury cyclist seriously injured in the Tour de Fair Haven race.

The race was a first for the modest, well-liked triathlete who was named Firefighter of the Year by Shrewsbury Hose Company, Fair Haven Mayor Ben Lucarelli told Patch.

And the accident that sent Porter to the Jersey Shore University Medical Center Trauma Unit has left him in the Intensive Care Unit with many friends and community members rallying for his recovery and looking for ways to help him and his family.

So, an open Facebook group page dubbed the PorterHouse Support Group has been created.

Calling the "outpouring of love towards the Porter family … extraordinary," the administrator of the page announced that the group was set up set up "to coordinate the efforts to support the Porter family during Cole's recovery from his accident."

Since the page's inception, it has been flooded with posts of love and support. There will be updates on Porter's recovery and condition and information on how to help the family now and in the future.

According to a post by Tom Vogel from Monday, "Cole is fighting hard. They are monitoring him on an hourly basis and he has been stable … He has a tough fight ahead, but lots of love and positive energy from a great group of friends."

Vogel gives a few more details, saying that the next couple of days will be rough ones as Porter's body reacts to the trauma and more tests are conducted. He adds that he is not allowed visitors, but the support is welcome and appreciated.

There is no official word on Porter's condition at this point. Speculative posts without confirmation are discouraged. Only family or someone entrusted by family to share that information will post accordingly, according to posts on the page.

"Please check this Group page for updates on Cole's condition and any requests for assistance from his family," Vogel's post added. "Soon we will post information on how you can help with everything from delivering meals to helping out with the many overwhelming tasks that the family is going to face over the next few months and beyond."

The group had 615 members as of Tuesday afternoon.

There will be a bike ride called Ride for Cole in the cyclist's honor with the staging area set-up at Marine Park in Red Bank at 5:30 p.m. T-shirts will be sold.
