Skydiver ID'd After Fatal South Jersey Fall In…

Best wishes to Elaine

Thanks and best wishes to Elaine Van Develde for her coverage of Middletown and for starting the Middletown Patch site.

Late last week I was informed that our Middletown Patch editor Elaine Van Develde would no longer be covering Middletown and was heading to over to the Rumson-Fair Haven site as its editor.

I would like to take moment to thank Elaine not only for her coverage of Middletown but for all of her efforts in making the Patch a viable news source for Middletown Township.

In an age when newspapers are drastically scaling down their coverage of local issues and events, the Middletown Patch has stepped in to fill that void.  Over the past two years I have attended hundreds of meetings and community events that Elaine had covered for the Patch.

If there was an event she missed, she would call me to ask about it so she could post a story. We could barely get the Asbury Park Press to cover a Township budget meeting let alone an event with a community group. Elaine was there.

Above all else, I along with many I have spoken to about Patch always found Elaine's reporting to be very fair and unbiased, her stories well-written and interesting. As Mayor there were some stories I may have liked and a few that I didn't but I can always say that they were fair and accurate. This is what I truly believe has helped Patch gain a tremendous amount of credibility.

In closing I want to again wish Elaine best of luck in her new role at Patch and once again thank her for her contributions to making the Middletown Patch a viable news source for Middletown. Good luck, Elaine. Rumson-Fair Haven is very fortunate to have you.

I also would like to welcome our new reporter to Middletown and look forward to seeing her on the trail.

Thank you for your kind words, Mr. Mayor. It was, and always has been, my absolute pleasure to cover Middletown. I've always considered it my work hometown. I will miss it very much, but am enjoying covering the area in which I was raised. I won't say "good-bye," only "see you around." I'm just over the bridge ... ;) Thank you, too, Perk. I'll see you around town.

Congrats to Rumson-Fair Haven for getting Elaine as their editor. I worked with Elaine at the Patch as it got off the ground in M'town, and was always impressed by the accurate and comprehensive coverage of the news. Most of all, I enjoyed the myriad of subject matter that was covered under Elaine, from breaking hard news to arts to "Mysterious Middletown sightings." While I started, I knew little about the town's history and Elaine made me feel the love that she shared for this community of hamlets. I inderstand her affection for Middletown, from the bayshore to Lincroft to Sandy Hook. She understands that a town is defined by its news, and always places the facts first. That's why I love M'town now, too, and will miss Ms Van DeVelde's coverage and perspective. Again, RFH, you are very lucky!

Thank you, KS. And, Michael, thank YOU for being the absolute best calendar editor and Street Talk videographer I've ever worked with! Your attention to detail and passion for delving into the community contacts and making the calendar not only accurate and well-written, but great looking, was appreciated by me and the community beyond words. You helped make the site a real go-to spot by not only doing your job, but going above and beyond and reaching out, with me, to the people of this largest municipality in the county with its dozen neighborhoods. People knew you as an integral part of Middletown Patch and its vision. You're the best!

She has always been and still is the best writer out there; captures the entire story completely and accurately. She is indeed an asset to any organization.

We're going to miss you, Elaine! Your wealth of knowledge about the township and your interest in writing accurate, objective articles was an asset to Middletown Patch and its readers. I can only hope to see such strong local reporting in the days to come. Rumson-Fair Haven is lucky to have you.
