Our Fair Haven Firemen's Fair Ladies

The fair opened Friday night; and these ladies, and gentleman, will tell you all about it.

There are many volunteers who have worked at the Fair Haven Firemen's Fair for countless years.

Many of those people are the ladies who have manned certain booths since seemingly the dawn of fair time. You've probably seen their faces year after year — and they've seen and remember yours.

They love the job. It has comprised a big chunk of their lives and their smiles have enriched all.

There's one little thing about this job, though. It tends to take on a bit of a territorial bent, all in good fun, of course. Take, for instance, Jeanette Choma, a 60 or so year resident of Fair Haven who has worked at the fair's Grab Bag Booth for about half a century.

Jeanette loves the fair and loves selling her balloons and trinkets to the kids. Go visit her. One thing: just don't tell her that it's anyone else's fair but her's. Oh, and she may remind you that she's worked the fair for 50 YEARS!

Take a look at our fun video from last year's fair, featuring Jeanette and some of the other ladies of the fair you probably know well by now. This is a classic and a perfect way to kick off opening night.

Happy viewing and we'll see you at the fair — Shhhhh ... everybody's fair.
