KaBoom! Fireworks Go Kaput in California

Garden State Fireworks was responsible for Kaboom! fireworks in Red Bank, but their show in Imperial Beach, CA only lasted 30 seconds.

Thousands of spectators in Imperial Beach, California were surprised when their July 4 fireworks display lasted about 30 seconds.

The California Coast Guard said they believe an fault ignition caused the entire display, provided and set off by Garden State Fireworks, to go off at once, .

Garden State Fireworks is the same company that was in charge of Kaboom! fireworks in Red Bank, which was canceled this year due to a lack of local funding.

"It looked like the finale ... you know, right at the end (when) they shoot off everything," Rich Dann, a civilian Coast Guard employee at the San Diego station told Patch.

Within 30 minutes, boos began to spread through parts of the crowd and people began to head home.

Garden State Fireworks has been in business since 1890, according to its Web site. The fireworks company has also supplied fireworks to events at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

The company could not be reached for comment.
