An exodus to the beach to beat the heat coupled with scattered fender benders backs up traffic past the Parkway in Manahawkin

In case you were thinking migrating south of the Rumson-Fair Haven area for this weekend, you may want to be apprised of the traffic situation down there.

By noon today, the traffic on Route 72 East was bumper-to-bumper and moving at a crawl from the Garden State Parkway to over the Causeway into Ship Bottom.

A three-car accident had closed off one lane of the eastbound Causeway and other minor accidents and broken down vehicles could be seen along the highway.

The Stafford Police Department has been contacted for more details and will be reported as they come in.

For now, anticipate at least an hour to travel to LBI from the Garden State Parkway. Mill Creek Road is backed up to where it meets East Bay Avenue and East Bay Avenue leading down to Marsha Drive, the last light before the Causeway is also backed up.
