Fairy Houses Sprout Up in Huber Woods Park

Local children tried to lure the fairies with little houses made of pinecone walls, stone beds and leafy ceilings, with an acorn cap for a bathtub.

Children found quiet spots in the beautiful Huber Woods Park in Middletown to create fairy houses at a May 18 Monmouth County Park system event.

A fairy house is made of the natural materials found in the woods, which is what fairies apparently prefer so that they can best vanish into the landscape when necessary.

On the morning of June 22, the parks staff will lead another excursion into fantasy at Deep Cut Park, where part of the program will explore fairies favorite plants and a review of fairy "building codes." (Register online, $7.50 per adult; $5 per child.)
