Sheila Oliver Ramps Up Online Presence In Senate Campaign

Oliver is one of four Democratic candidates vying for former Sen. Frank Lautenberg's seat.

State Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver (D-34) is running for U.S. Senate.

It’s okay if you didn’t know.

Oliver, the least visible of the four Democratic contenders in the special Aug. 13 primary election race, on Friday unveiled a new campaign website and a new Twitter account, just more than a month before the election.

The website is little more than a placeholder, with a single link to one news article about Oliver and links to her new Twitter account, newly revived Facebook page and the ability to sign up for email alerts about her campaign.

A full campaign website is forthcoming, according to one of the 10 tweets on Oliver’s Twitter account by early afternoon Friday.

Oliver, a surprise entry into the race, has kept an unusually low profile since filing last month to run for the Democratic nod in pursuit of the U.S. Senate seat left by the late Sen. Frank Lautenberg.

In the most recent Quinnipiac poll, Oliver trails the pack of contenders – Newark Mayor Cory Booker, U.S. Reps. Rush Holt (D-12) and Frank Pallone (D-6) – with just three percent of those polled saying they would vote for the Essex County politician.
