Candidates Make Their Final Appeals in U.S. Senate Race

The Election Day Crystal Ball has been wheeled out by media organizations far and wide as New Jersey voters cast ballots in the U.S. Senate primary.

Twitter is alight with messages of support for each of the candidates – Newark Mayor Cory Booker, U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone (D-6), U.S. Rep. Rush Holt (D-12), Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver (D-34), former Bogota Mayor Steve Lonegan and Somerset County doctor Alieta Eck.

At Patch, we asked each of the candidates to make their best, last-minute pitch to voters directly. The catch was they had to do it in 25 words or less.

So, why should we come out and vote for you today?

Holt: "Because the Senate really needs at least one scientist, and because New Jersey really should be represented by a proven progressive."

Eck: "NJ has a chance to vote for more of the same or choose a new, hopeful direction. Please be careful on your way to vote."

Oliver: "We need to make the Senate look a little more like real America. It's time to make history and elect New Jersey’s first female Senator." 

Booker: "We need a different kind of experience, if we want to bring people together and get things done in Washington."

Lonegan: "I will fight to repeal Obamacare, create jobs, cut taxes, reduce government spending and protect our constitutional freedoms from heavy-handed, intrusive government bureaucrats."

Pallone: "We need a Senator who can get things done. I’ll bring my proven record of accomplishment to the Senate to improve New Jerseyan's lives."
