Youth Fitness Camp Coming to Fair Haven

Summer camp will be held in Fair Haven this July

West Long Branch resident Robert Cavanaugh recently launched his own running company, RTC Training, and is looking to spread his love of fitness to local children.

This summer, RTC Training is offering a week-long Cool Runners Fitness Camp for boys and girls entering 1st–8th grades.

“Having three kids that enjoy playing outside and running, I thought that developing youth camps that focus on developing fitness, self-respect and healthy lifestyles through running was needed in our area," Cavanaugh said.

The camp is in partnership with Fair Haven Recreation and will be held during the week of July 9-13, from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Fair Haven Fields. The cost for the camp is $95 per child.

"Cool Runners Fitness Camp is designed to provide a fun, positive environment for all campers while developing fitness, self-respect and healthy lifestyles through running," Cavanaugh said. "Each day, campers will participate in warm up and cool down sessions, drills, fitness games, races, and running discussions."

Cavanaugh said he is hoping to use his running background and knowledge as a way to teach children.

“From competing at the collegiate level and having great coaches through the years, I have gained a wealth of knowledge about running, which allows me to help others reach their fitness goals through RTC Training," Cavanaugh said.

Cavanaugh attended Red Bank Catholic where he broke records on the track and soccer field and upon graduating earned All County, All Shore, and All State honors. He continued on at Monmouth University where he excelled on the track and soccer teams and earned all East Honors for track.

In 2011, he won several local races including the Jersey Shore Grand Prix, Rumson-Fair Haven 5M and the Pier Village 5k.
