Rumson Night Lights: B'ball by the River

The summer event for Thursday nights brings sport, food and festivity

It was a slice of suburban life — last night's Thursday Night Lights men's basketball league at in Rumson.

The scent of barbeque wafted through the air down by the Navesink River as friends and neighbors gathered to support the league, chat and take in the view as the sun set over the riverside.

This is the third year of the regular Thursday night summer event that features sports talent from Rumson and the surrounding area.

Initiated by R-FH boys basketball coach Chris Champeau, there's music, food and drink at the games that start at 5:45 p.m.

"We're just trying to continue to promote basketball in Rumson and have a fun night out of great basketball where families can bring their kids and have a good time,'' Champeau told Patch in a previous interview. "They get to see some high-level talent as well as the R-FH stars they remember. Plus, you can't have a better setting than Victory Park right on the water.''
