Rumson Boat Race Set for Sept. 29

The race will include high school crew teams from around the state this year

For the third consecutive year, collegiate rowing returns to Rumson and Fair Haven on the Navesink River with the Rumson Boat Race on Sept. 29.

The race's organizing committee, in conjunction with the Borough of Rumson, is hosting the crew race, which will feature competitive educational institutions and their crews in a challenge for the Governor’s Cup, and the Mayor’s Cup for collegiate men’s and women’s crews.

Army, Bucknell, Drexel, Villanova and Rutgers will launch men's and women's eight-oared shells in the Navesink adjacent to Victory Park in Rumson the morning of Sept. 29 and race.

The race courses, depending on conditions, will encompass both Rumson and Fair Haven areas of the river.

In the tradition of the Henley Royal Regatta, athletes and coaches will stay with local families on the evening of Friday, Sept. 28, following a coaches' and Olympians' reception at the home of Tim and Tammy Horan in Rumson.

For the first time, conditions permitting, student athletes from the newly-formed Central New Jersey Rowing Association will race. The association includes: R-FH Rowing, Rumson; St. Joseph’s High School, Metuchen; and, Westfield High School, Westfield.
