RFH Girls' Lax Facts, Season Wrap

It's no secret that the Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) Girls' Lacrosse Team clobbered Red Bank Catholic in the Shore Conference Tournament final with a 14-8 score, ending the season with an 18-6 wins to losses record.

The SCT win was one of many proud moments for RFH Girls' Lax Coach Amy O'Keefe.

"This is my 10th year of coaching, and this was the year that the girls truly came together as a team," said O'Keefe in a released statement. "I am proud of the players because there were no standouts this year, so they all contributed equally."

Here are some team pride tidbits you may not know, such as:

• The team lost the SCT finals last year, when they had hoped to make it a second consecutive win;

• This season marked the Bulldogs' sixth appearance in the SCT final and second SCT champ title under Coach Amy O'Keefe;

• Both the boys' and girls' teams won the SCT final;

• The team made it to the Group II South Semi-Finals, where they lost to Allentown by one goal;

• With three games against staunch RBC rivals, all games were wins for RFH;

• RFH entered the SCT as the number one seed and RBC entered as number two.

There are also some individual team member facts you may not know:

• O'Keefe noted that all seven of the senior players were starters, and that five of those seven plan to play in college.

• Senior Midfielder Kelsey Cuje will be playing for Rutgers University, New Brunswick;

• Annie Gilbertson will be playing defense for Bucknell University, Lewisburg, PA;

• Goalie Maddie Mullen will be playing for Washington College, Chestertown, Maryland;

• Jesse Yorke will be providing defense for Middlebury College, VT;

• Attacker Emily Knapp will be on the field for the University of Colorado.

• Junior Attacker Nicolette Dunphy has made a verbal commitment to play for Lehigh University, PA;

• Junior Midfielder Bridget Curran has verbally committed to the University of North Carolina;

The RFH girls have not only worked well as a team but have also been singled out for individual honors, O'Keefe noted.

Those individual honors are as follows:

• Junior Attacker Mary Scarrone has been named a 1st Team All American selection.

• Cuje, Gilbertson, and Curran have been chosen for the First Team All Shore;

• Mullen, who was named team MVP, and Dunphy have been selected for the 2nd Team All Shore.

"All of the girls' games were fun to watch," said O'Keefe. "Although I will miss my graduating seniors I am looking forward to next year, when we will build on this team's momentum and have a phenomenal season."
