RFH Girls' Golf Triumphs This Year

The team was entered into the Tournament of Champions for the first time in a few years.

The Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School Girls' Golf Team did quite well this year.

Ending the season with an 15-1 record earned the girls a share of the Division Title, Coach Jon Penetti reported. And, he added, something else happened for the first time in a few years — the team's performance at the State Sectionals Tournament gained them entry into the Tournament of Champions.

"The girls all played some great golf and I could not have been happier with them," said Pennetti in a released statement. "I am really looking forward to building on this success and having a phenomenal season next year."

Among other things, the team did very well at the Tournament of Champions held at Cherry Valley Country Club in Skillman, NY on May 24. With a combined score of 375, senior co-captains Nicki Liang and Katie Veasey and sophomores Meghan Foos and Stefani Sciametta placed eighth in the state.

There were a few noteworthy accomplishments along the way. For instance, Veasey's individual score of 80 placed her in a three-way tie for 15th place at the Tournament of Champions. And the team also earned third place honors in tournament play at the Monmouth County, Shore Conference, and State sectionals.

Veasey was also invited to participate in the prestigious Challenge Cup held at Buena Vista Country Club in Marlboro, where the Monmouth County Team she was on beat Ocean County with a score of 13.5 to 1.5.

She was also selected for the Asbury Park Press All-Shore Team for Girls' Golf for the second year in a row.

"Our team has grown tremendously in skill this year as evidenced especially by our play at the final match, where we beat our friendly rival Red Bank Catholic by three strokes" said Veasey in a release. "Coach Jon Pennetti has provided endless support and gone out of his way to help us reach this level."

In addition to Liang, Veasey, Foos, and Sciametta, the RFH Varsity Girl's Golf Team members are sophomore Phoebe Short and junior Margaret Heintzelman.
