RFH Crew Teams in the Making for Spring

A Booster Club board has been approved to support the program.

Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) will soon have its own crew team set to row right into the spring 2014 season.

It's something that school officials and parents have teamed up to work on for some time. And with the formation of boys' and girls' junior varsity and varsity teams in the works, coaches are also being fielded to head them up.

A Booster Club board — approved by the Board of Education and presided over by parent Mark Wallhauser with Cushing Condon, Ed Cushing, Paul Hughes, Scott Eskwitt and Jim Hallisey — has been formed to support the program. And RFH Director of Athletics and Student Activities Chris Lazalotto is in charge of the coach search.

"Crew is a lifetime sport that demands hard work, dedication, and teamwork and takes full advantage of the natural resources surrounding the peninsula we are fortunate enough to call 'home'" said Wallhauser. "It distinguishes students during the college application process and teaches them that their achievements in life are limited only by their drive to achieve them."

A kick-off meeting for students and parents will be held in the RFH auditorium on Monday, Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m.

"Rowing offers our students an outstanding opportunity to improve self-discipline while learning about teamwork," Lanzalotto said in a release. "I am very happy to have the program back at RFH, and I look forward to beginning the hiring process for our coaching staff."
