RCDS Basketball Teams Battle it Out for Championship Titles

Both boys' and girl's basketball teams made it to the semi finals; The boys went all the way and brought home a title.

Both the (RCDS) boys’ and girls’ basketball teams battled their way into the semifinal rounds during the Middle School Championships for the Central New Jersey Athletic League.

The girls' season ended on Wednesday, February 23 with a close game, but the boys moved into the Championship round. 

 The Gators’ girls’ basketball team were defending their CJAL 2010 title when they hosted Calvary Academy for the semifinals. In a well matched game, the girls played hard and it was difficult to predict the winner. But, in the end, Calvary out scored RCDS the 23-20, kicking RCDS out of the finals.

RCDS’ boys’ basketball team hosted Seashore School when the girls’ game concluded. The boys showcased their talented young team to defeat Seashore 52-25, advancing to the championship game. 

It was a case of deja vu on Friday night as Ranney and RCDS boys took the court for the Championship title just as the two teams faced each other one year ago. This year, the Panthers were defending their two-year consecutive title. Both the RCDS Gators and the Ranney Panthers played a great game, with fans on their feet and the score close throughout the game. In the end, the RCDS Gators took home the CJAL Championship title defeating the Panthers in a close 32-28 game.

“We would like to congratulate all players who advanced to the playoff rounds,” said Athletic Director Paul Campanella. “We are excited for both RCDS teams representing the Gators in playoffs and bringing home the boys’ 2011 Championship title."
