Rumson-Fair Haven Girls Cross Country Now Qualifies for Meet of Champions

The team finished third in Group 2 Championships Saturday

The Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School Girls Cross Country (XC) is now qualified for the Meet of Champions.

The team finished in third place in the Group 2 Championships on Saturday, behind Voorhees and Bernards, gaining the eligibility.

In what was the fifth fastest time in R-FH history, junior Jacqueline Gottuso led the team on the 5,000 meter course with a time of 19:40. Also scoring for the team was sophomore, Fini Satzke (20:24), junior, Megan Hellman (20:26), freshman, Emily Hellman (20:32) and junior, Courtney Howley (21:08).  Rounding out the team were seniors Isabella Maita and Caleigh Farragher.

Just a week before, on Saturday, Nov. 10 at Delsea High School, R-FH defended its Group 2 Central Jersey sectional title placing five girls in the top 15 to beat Holmdel and Robbinsville. Howley (19:41) led the team, followed by Gottuso (19:46), Maita (20:05), Satzke (20:11), M. Hellman (20:38), sophomore, Rachel Lehnert (21:10) and E. Hellman (21:15). 

The Meet of Champions will take place at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21 in Holmdel Park. The top three teams in each of the four public school groups and two non-public groups, along with two wild-card teams, advance to the Meet of Champions. Other girls’ teams from our area that qualified include Red Bank Catholic, Saint John Vianney and Holmdel, which was one of the wild-card teams.
