R-FH Boys Lacrosse Scores Big!

Boys win Top Rank Lacrosse Tournament

The Rumson-Fair Haven 8th Grade Boys Lacrosse Team has accomplished a very significant sports feat.
On Sunday, April 7, the team of 20 won the extremely prestigious and competitive Top Rank Lacrosse Tournament in Old Brookville, Long Island.
This tournament is unique in that it chooses only teams that have demonstrated success in their local and regional endeavors for competiton.

The R-FH boys won the championship against a perennial powerhouse of lacrosse, Garden City (Long Island, NY) by a "nail biting" score of 3-2.

The path to the championship was made quite difficult by an opening game loss to the same Garden City team 8-5, which the R-FH boys let get away from them after a 4-4 halftime stalemate.

The next two games were quite different as the team took on another Long Island powerhouse in West Islip, and defeated that team 6-4. The next opponent, John Jay (Westchester, NY), a very strong and storied program, turned out to be no match for a determined R-FH squad as the team dispatched them 11-5.

The championship game saw a very determined defensive effort from the entire R-FH team, and some opportunistic goal scoring from three different players.
Garden City mounted many charges, which were turned aside by a strong team effort. The R-FH boys stormed the field following the game, elated in a feat that was as much unexpected as it was well-earned.
The R-FH Boys Youth Lacrosse program is compromised of more than 300 players, from kindergarten through eighth grade, and has approximately 30 volunteer coaches teaching them the game in what they describe as a sprit of brotherhood, respect, pride and commitment. Teams compete on a local and regional level during the spring season.
The boys on the team come from five schools in the area — Knollwood, Forrestdale, Rumson Country Day, Ranney and Holy Cross — and have been playing together on a very demanding year round schedule for more than four years.
