On Track: An R-FH Shot Put Triumph

R-FH junior Jason Bryan wins at Monmouth County Indoor Track Championships

On Friday, Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School junior Jason Bryan threw 52 feet, 9 inches to win the shotput competition at the Monmouth County Indoor Track Championships, Toms River.

Bryan had the longest throw of the meet, set a new school record and helped the boys team to a seventh place finish.

"Jason is having a great winter season so far,” said Bob Keogh, one of the R-FH coaches for winter track. “He has won two invitational meets and the Monmouth County Championships and, in the process, shattered the RFH school indoor shot put record by more than 10 feet.”

At the Colts Neck Invitational the week before, Bryan finished first on a toss of 50 feet. He also won the Merli Invitational on Dec. 29, with a throw of 52 feet 6 inches.

Teaming with his brother Jordan, a sophomore at R-FH, he won the shot put at the Monmouth County Relays, with an R-FH school record of 82 feet, 4 inches.

"It's fun to watch the success of someone who is so dedicated and disciplined and who works so hard every day to perfect his technique. We anticipate even greater things from Jason as we enter the championship part of the winter season,” added Keogh.

At the Jan. 18 Monmouth County Championships, three R-FH girls were able to score for their team. In the 3200 meter race, Junior Jacqueline Gottuso finished in 3rd place with a personal best of 11:27.64.

Senior Isabella Maita finished in 4th place with a personal best of 11:43.14. Sophomore Nora Ryan tied for 6th place in the high jump with a final height of 4-10, a personal best and R-FH school record.
