A Fair Haven Soccer Star is Born

By Elaine Van Develde

There goes that Fair Haven Firehouse sign again … giving kudos to yet another local champ.

It's another hometown hero story. No sooner did a sign touting Olympian Connor Jaeger's latest coup go down than another went up championing the major national soccer accomplishment of Fair Haven Fire Department Cadet and Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School incoming senior Schuyler DeBree.

Schuyler is the daughter of longtime Fair Havenite and Fair Haven Fire Department Chief Derek DeBree. And soccer is her well-known passion for which her team, the PDA Slammers, just won the national championship.

The Slammers team is part of the Elite Clubs National League which is comprised of the best in the nation.

"The best 32 teams (out of 74) at the U-17 age group played in a playoff series in Denver three weeks ago to determine the final eight that would compete for the National Championship," dad Derek DeBree explained in an email.

"Schuyler’s team went to Denver as the #1 seed, having not lost a game all season long. They won their group in Denver and advanced to last weekend’s Nation Finals in Richmond. Sky's team beat the  Dallas Sting in the National Final 3-0, with Schuyler scoring goal #3 at the beginning of the second half."

Congrats, Sky!
