Winning Run: R-FH Outdoor Track Score

The boys team placed third in latest meet

The Outdoor Track teams are on a winning course. 

The boys team finished in third place, tied with Ocean Township, in the Shore Conference Championships on May 19 in Neptune. Out of the 30 participating teams, the Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) boys team finished first and Manalapan finished second. R-FH seniors Sam Gottuso and Michael Moralle, sophomores Jacob Rue, Jason Bryan and Luke Jacobs and junior Danny Wojcienowski all scored points for the team.

Moralle took second place in the javelin, throwing his season best of 181-11. Bryant went 48-11.5 in the shot put, also placing second. Wojcienowski went 138-8 in the discus, placing fourth.  Gottuso ran 1:57.36 in the 800m, placing fourth, Rue went 12-6 in the pole vault, placing fourth, and Jacobs went 45-04.75 in the shot put, placing sixth.

For the R-FH girls team, senior Shannon McCarthy ran a season best time of 5:09.88 in the 1600m, placing first.  Also scoring for the R-FH girls was the 4x400m relay team of McCarthy, seniors Elizabeth Bellin and Elizabeth Apicella, and junior Emily Geiger. They had a third place finish in 4:05.13.

The R-FH girls team placed 10 out of 32 teams.

The performances by McCarthy, Gottuso and Moralle all meet the national “elite” silver standard.

The R-FH outdoor track teams next compete at the 2012 NJSIAA Outdoor Track Sectional Championships at Monmouth Regional High School, Tinton Falls, on Friday, May 25 (4 p.m. start), and Saturday, May 26, (10 a.m. start).
