Upcoming Events Discussed at Fair Haven Board of Education Meeting

Notes from the Fair Haven School District Board of Education meeting on Wednesday, September 21.

The Fair Haven Board of Education (BOE) met at last night for their regular monthly meeting.  

Topics such as upcoming PTA events, new security and the concussion policy were discussed.

The following are notes from the meeting on Wednesday, September 21 at the Knollwood School Media Center:

- Fair Haven Schools are fully equipped with new security equipment. Chairperson Cathy Alescio said they will be moving forward with new security systems and cameras. "The custodians did a great job getting everything ready for the first day of school," Alescio said.

- The Parent Teacher Associated was at the meeting and described many upcoming events.

President of the Fair Haven PTA, Tracey Rehder was excited about Harvest Fest, which is on October 1st.  Harvest Fest is a traditional fall activity for Fair Haven residents. "We have about 200 scarecrows along River Road this year," Rehder said. "You can't miss them."

A clothing drive beginning October 1 at the festival and a family photo shoot at Fair Haven dock to be held on October 8 are two other upcoming events for the Fair Haven PTA.

- Changes have been recently made to the districts concussion policy. During the Superintendent's report, Kathi Cronin gave more details about these changes. According to Cronin, all athletes and parents have to receive a fact sheet about treating concussions. In addition, all coaches and nurses must be certified in treating concussions.

- A board position has opened up in the Fair Haven School District. Mark Mancuso, the board president said, "Nancy Walrath has left town and we are now looking for a replacement."
