The Rumson Board of Education has called a special meeting for 7 p.m. tonight at Forrestdale School to appoint a new board member and approve an amended school calendar.
Aug. 30 was the final day the board accepted applications for those interested in filling the seat vacated by member Colleen Hodge, who resigned.
Hodge's temporary replacement will serve in the appointed spot until January 2013, when whoever runs and wins in the November elections to fill her unexpired term through 2014 will take over the post.
Candidates will be interviewed tonight, according to an announcement on the board's Web site, and a new member will be appointed.
In addition, there is a change in the school calendar, "regarding potential unused snow days," that will be approved at the meeting, the announcement said.
Due to schedule conflicts, a board announcement said, another board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 27, which is not the usual board meeting date.
